I had a klv and tried blue flame, scorpion and leo vince cans, all came off due to the really poor fuelling :( sounded great though :)

I have Twin Scorpions on my DL1000... and I still do over 250 miles, on a 22 litre tank... at motorway speeds of 80+... so I don't understand what fueling probs you could be having....?
I don't....

it would never run smooth on a constant throttle, quite happy on a positive throttle but at constant it felt like it was holding back

The cans were probably not the cause, but they could amplify the symptoms of some other problem. Best thing to do would be to get it onto a dyno when the new cans are on and have them remap the ECU (Yosh box or Teka SFI.) IMHO it's well worth the extra bit of money, particularly on the Vees.
