50K (now 100K!)

Just went over 50K miles today, 29K from previous owners, 21K from myself. Anyone else with a Wee that high yet?

Definitely not mine, Juv. Watching your odometer must be like sitting on HG Wells time machine in the old movie, watching the years rack up as the sun flies around the sky, and the seasons hurtle past!
I reckon at present you cover in 3 or 4 weeks what I do in a year on the bike...I'll post on this again in about 12 years time, except everyone else will have tigers (probably electric!)

Not me, just 14k on my Vee...

Seen some of the Germans & some in USA have big miles, over 100k on both Wee's & Vee's. No reason why not, the engines are pretty much bulletproof.

Keep racking the miles up, I want to see how far you can get it & what finally kills it...

Hehe, love the time machine comparison  lol I don't like the idea of electric motorcycles though, there is something special about the internal combustion engine that should never die.

I recall russtrom (new member) posting that he's on his 2nd Wee, his first one had 80K  on it of I remember correctly (can't find the post where I read it so correct me if I've got it wrong.) Those are some serious miles too! I recall minkyhead doing crazy miles too :thumb:

It's just my situation at present that is causing the extreme miles, the 21K was done from 25 May to 15 Dec this year. Unfortunately I can't do anything about the commute distance until 2nd quater of next year, even then it won't be a definate change. It costs me about £450 a month in petrol alone and it's just gone up again :bawl: I'm going to ride this little Strom until it is no more, I suspect it will be ended by some plonker on a motorway. Seeing as there are many of them around and I rack up most of the miles on motorways it's a good guess, though I sincerely hope I'm very wrong

I've grown very attached to my Strom and the many miles have made me a confident rider. I'm planning to attend Bike Safe days and maybe start my IAM training next year when the weather gets to the point when normal people get on their bikes again. Finding the time is the only issue, I only really have weekends and they are mostly taken up with maintenance tasks and things that need doing around the home, but I'm sure I can make it all work.

<-- I'm putting my miles in the 'My Bike' details and keeping it updated (about weekly.) If there are other high milers (or anyone else for that matter) that wants to do that, it'd be interesting to watch your miles too.

Impressive stuff!  :thumb:
The motor should last ages, like most Jap stuff, as long as its properly serviced. What will probably give up the ghost well before the engine is the electrics, chassis components, suspension etc..
Out of interest, what mileage do you get from your chain & sprockets?

I hope those Tiger drivers have more luck than my mate big fat ugly john, bought his new at the Exeter dealer and so far he has had a new starter, a new battery, 1 push around Bodmin, a push on one ferry and a push off another  ferry, and a push around the french alps, yep its me pushing, yesterday on a ride out I signalled him to pull in and then drove past him one hundred yards and phoned him to tell him his tiger tractor was chucking out large quantities of blue smoke, and the reason I phoned was had I been in strangling range I would have been strangled, I have had some good Triumphs but this one has been a dog for him, its only got 10,000 on the clock. He took it back to the main dealer yesterday and I expect they had a "pep" talk from him, and all the time my DLthou keeps on chugging along. Just had 11000 mile service at Suzuki Camborne £101, Johnny had a £180 quote just for brake shoes on his Tiger. When I need cheering up I just ring him.
I'm not much good with computers....... but I can open a mouse with a file.

The current chain and sprockets were fitted with the CarbonForBikes solid block chain lube system thingy. I only use DID X-Ring chains (525VX) and I change the sprockets with the chain. They have done only 5889 miles and not needed any adjustment. The previous chain was a little neglected as the Tuturo chain oiler kept messing about and the chain and sprockets lasted 18794. The one before that came with the bike when I bought it and I had it on for about 6k before it snapped and caused a bit of damage I had to fix (there's a thread somewhere with all the details.) As long as I get about 20k out of a chain and sprockets I'm happy, if they last any longer it's a bonus  :thumb:

Juvecu I am chasing you up hahaha
I am only on 14k (6k from the old owner) so I have done 8k but in 5 months so this works out about 12-13k a year:)
I also do maintain my bike myself and I am really surprised nothing came off it yet:)

Good mileage Juv, I am hoping to keep my Vstrom as until it is no more.
