Two Triumphs at Hartstone cafe, which was closed. My 765 Street Triple R and Steve's 1050 sprint. And a view of a bit of the view looking West'ish
Saturday 31st we set off for Donington. only one thunderstom with me sheltering under a motorway bridge only lasted 10 minutes and there was no rain for the rest of the trip. Travelodge at Donnington services was very good and fairly cheap for a two night stay. Sunday 1st August we went to Donington PArk for the classic races. I queued to buy Phil Read's latest book which he was signing but my friend Steve's brother ahead of me in the queue got the last one. Monday we set off for Temple Sowerby near Penrith and stayed in the Kings Arms for three nights. Tuesday we visited the Lakeland Motor Museum just south of Windamere. An RTA caused us to diverted up 'Fell Foot Brow' for a thrilling, (bloody scary) tour of the roads too small for a caravan, but they still try, until we joined the Kirkstone Pass on the 592 for a scenic trip back to Penrith.
Wednesday we went to Hexham via Penrith, Hartside Pass, Alston and Low Gate. Very nice lunch of fish and chips in Tesco at Hexham.
The threatened rain did not fall on Thursday for the 327 mile run home. So apart from one brief downpour the weather was dry for us the whole time. Overly large expensive cars, driven by complete twats, spoil almost all of the roads around 'popular areas'. Best to keep away from the lakes and places that attract wealthy yobbos. With wing mirrors brushing each side of a narrow lane these idiots seemed to think that if they kept 'pressing on' me and my bike would somehow vanish from the road. Once I stood my ground on an steep uphill section and it took ten minutes of us staring each other out before she could put the Automatic Merc in reverse and go back 20 or so feet to a wider part that would allow me through. Even so she was unable to drive back in a stright line and did untold damage to her paintwork as she fishtailed from hedge to hedge.
