Attitudes
« on: June 08, 2010, 21:41:12 »
Hi.

What is it with some people, when I was learning to ride, bikers used to nod, and sometimes wave other bikers.
Now after 26 years of riding I have found that people just are not as friendly.

Is it that people can see how old I am and don't think I can see them! Is it that people are just so unfriendly, or is it todays youth!!!

Or is it the fact that people just hate strom's.

Preach it Spanner.

I can deal with the badass cruiser blokes needing to keep their aura, but I even got blanked by a couple on a strom at the weekend.

Anyway, I ain't stopping waving, otherwise, the tools win :)

Most people seem to nod up this way ..then again we're still on the CBR
Life isn't about waiting for the strom to pass.... it's about learning to dance in the rain

Doesn't bother me whether they nod or not. Some do some don't. In fact on sunny days when all the tourist bikers come out I get pissed off with having to nod back all the fecking time.
I used to be a lorry driver for Somerfield, and thrroughout the day you would be nodding to loads of other Somerfield drivers. I also had a motorhome and all motorhome and camper van drivers nod to each other. Some day's your like.... enough already !

What you need to remember is that almost everyone you wave to that does not wave back will be thinking shit I should have waved back, then again if it's been a busy biker day it can some times be a pain.

I always nod or wave - If there's no response - I always think 'wanker'

Don't just assume someone isn't friendly, I for one wouldn't always nod if I'm in heavy traffic because my attention is all being put into staying safe. If that means I don't nod to some bloke that can afford to pay attention to me, then so be it. Maybe when I get more experienced I'd have time to spare some attention to fit a nod in even in heavy traffic. Mostly I do nod, but just sometimes I don't and then if I get a nod and notice it then it's normally too late to nod back and I think that the rider probably think I'm an Donkey after not getting a nod in return.

ps. I've given up nodding to moped/scooter riders, there's just something wrong with them, their eyes can only look strait ahead.

I nod to every biker, maybe 2/3 respond.  If they don't it might simply be that e.g.they just saw some overbanding/ manholes / phone-using car driver coming up and either didn't see you or were too busy dealing with the perils of the road. Of course they might just be big bellends.  Either way, I always nod - it's part of the biking subculture and I love it  :thumb:

Yeah, I always nod when I can but there will be times I was concentrating on something else and miss it. I figure the same for most other people.

Can't figure out what the problem is with these blokes, mainly the HD riders. Sweeping generalisation alert but must of these blokes are about the same age as my dad and about as badass as my mum. You get nods off some but seems about 75% of them seem to snub you, and this is from a group I rate only very slightly higher up the pecking order than caravan owners...

So what you're really saying is that they should be honoured that we nod at them and make eager use of being allowed to communicate with us by nodding back? ;)

Nodding to the other Scottish people is fine in Kuala Lumpur or Edinburgh, but it's a pain in Glasgow!

not me, I got the fk out first chance :)

Anyhoo, Jasper, I have a special wave reserved for you for when we meet (it's got to happen)

And I'm of the school of , wave to everybody , and if I don't get a response, they are clearly fkwits.

I nod to everyone harleys, sports, learners whoever!!

the best nod I've ever recieved is when I was really pinning it on a bend using all my concentration and another bike came the other way with the same enthusiasm as me and gave me a nod which seemed v co ol thing to do in the circumstances

Of course foreign riders, especially Gerry, will often wave a leg rather than hand or head. That's considered cool in some places (where they don't understand what's cool).

I nod to all bikers no matter what they're riding. Most nod back, and it still makes me grin like a loon.
