20,000 mile service
« on: April 08, 2025, 17:34:25 »
My bike just over the 20,000 now. As I plan to sell it very soon, would it be essential to put it through the service? The bikes in great condition but has been sitting in the garage over the winter last 6 months. Just wondering what the situation would be as I have not sold  a bike in the UK before and not sure what the expectations of buyers would be likely to be....etc etc...

If done to the schedule the next service is at 22, 500 miles ( a minor service ) so I would not worry about it assuming that is what you have done .
Even if not I wouldn't worry if selling it soon , point out what you have done service wise to the buyer and all is good .
Have the valves been checked ?

I would advertise it and see whether you get much interest then you can either get shot of it or decide to service it and sell it or keep it.

The market is poor at present so don't get too optimistic unless you're offering a bargain price!

I'd say a 2013/2014 bike with only 20K is a good selling point. If it's in good condition, clean and well 'lubed' you should get a top end book price. If you have to get a valve check done then include the cost in the asking price, that's another 20K+ reassurance. It would cost £60 to put a new (reliable) battery on it if it hasn't been changed recently and £300 for tyres if they are coming to the end. Brake pads should be OK. It might still be on original chain/sprockets? (Mine is at 30K and still servicable)

Good luck!
So how's it going so far then?

Is there any MOT on it? A 12 Months MOT is a good selling point.
Good luck with the sale
