Honda Monkey anyone?
« on: April 01, 2025, 07:19:10 »
As I am finally close to finishing my Triumph T140 'custom' project, my eye is drawn from the sublime to the ridiculous, and I find myself looking at 125 Monkey bikes.

Does anyone here have one?

I have a couple of mates elsewhere in the UK who do (they also have proper bikes) and they rave about them.

I have joined a couple of FB groups... but they are typical FB groups, so more or less useless.

What I know so far is that older ones (pre 2022?) have a four speed box, they are often modified. Newer / current models have a five speed box with other differences to the engine (longer stroke, different oiling system).

I also gather that all can be had with almost no mileage (commuting didn't work out then) and that 5k miles is considered high mileage... but not by Honda.

From a buyers perspective, they are scattered all over the UK, which make locating and buying a bit of a PIA. Either that or it is just a matter of buying the one that's closest.
The older I get, the better I was.

Oh dear, that was unfortunate timing.

But I really am looking for a Monkey bike.

No 125's on this page, but a few others in the Monkey genre. Including one hilariously called a Gorilla ..........
At the other end of the scale there is Dick Emry's Gold Wing!

There's also an XL100 ..... now if it had been a 185 .........

I didn't know David Silver were selling bikes now... thanks for the link.

Honda CB200 in red (orange). I was on the back of one just like it back in 1977 when my mate Birdy had a car pull out on him.

The bike was a write off. He got a sprained finger. I spent the entire summer in traction and still have the metalwork... and the scars to prove it.

Nice little CT110...
