Indicator Problem V-Strom 1000 2014
« on: February 25, 2025, 12:09:56 »
I went out on my motorbike yesterday and noticed immediately that there is a fault on the indicators. They are OEM LED Suzuki indicators and have been working perfectly since I bought the bike but now when I indicate the bulb stays lit and doesn't flash. It's the same if I put the Hazards on, they light but don't flash.

I'm quite sure I need a new relay but wondered what you chaps think before I order one. This is the replacement I have found and intend to purchase.

There is no fault code or warning light on the dash just the indicator light stays on.

it's not expensive and it an easy fix, if the relay is the fault. What do you lovely fellows think?  :thumb:

Definitely try the relay first, they can internally short circuit, which could cause this fault.
Good luck.

I had a good look at the picture in the eBay ad then went to the bike. Next to the fuse box under the seat there is another black cover and underneath there are 3 small, blue in colour relays and a blank space for a spare (I guess) but I've no idea which if any of them is the indicator relay.

I guess a trip to the Suzuki dealer is necessary. It's a nice day and a good ride to there anyway. I hope they will identify it for me but I don't want to buy from them at probably £1000,000 unless I have to. They may even have one in stock (I think the same relay will be used on lots of models) and the price may be reasonable. Maybe  :thumb:

Have a quick look to make sure all the earth/return connections are OK ? It could just be a poor connection ? Best of luck with it  :thumb:

Thank you Rusty but no, well it may do and the three relays under the seat may not include the indicator relay. I've got my bike kit on and just about to go to the dealer to find out. Thank you anyway, I wish it was that one £8:00 would be a cheap fix.  :thumb:

I'm home after a ride to the dealer. When I got there I parked next to the caffe. I removed my helmet then had the briefest play with the wire under the beak with the indicators on, the indicator flashed. Wow! had a cup of tea and a chat and went back to the bike. The indicators didn't wink so I went to the parts department and was told "They don't have one in stock and the part is obsolete so can't be ordered.

I'm going to have a look online again to find out where exactly the relay is, spray it, clean it and see if it works, then I will try to find an aftermarket one that is plug and play. If all that doesn't work then I'll try to find one aftermarket and make it fit, badly and I don't want to do that. Decisions decisions.  :thumb:

Edit: I found the part and ordered it £17 odd including postage. I hope that works.  :) :thumb:

Thank you all and thank you for the picture Gert. When it stops raining I'll go out and have a look. Supposed to be dryer this afternoon.  :thumb: It should be easier when the new one comes too as at least then I'll have one in my hand while I'm looking.  :thumb:
