650 v strom start up noise .
« on: October 22, 2024, 14:22:26 »
I have a 2024 650 v strom and at 400mls it started making a noise when starting . Like a shrill screech , it only last a second or two and only when cold . However it only happens now and again and when I took it to the dealers it wouldn't do it 🤷‍♂️ has anyone else had this start up noise ..!!!!

If you are going to take it in for the 500 first service, make sure to mention it again.
Is your battery topped up? not too many short runs /left for a while , it should start without that screech for sure.It sounds like the starter clutch /sprag gear winding down, but it shouldn't sound like that.Showing the dealer your vid will help .

Make sure to mention it again at first service and get it recorded.
I would possibly also send an email to Suzuki UK just so you know you have a record should you need it.
If they can't find it, and I'm guessing it's either clutch or starter related, then ride. If something finally fails then get it repaired under warranty.
If you continue to get it Suzuki serviced it'll remain in warranty.

Sorry it sounds like I've only done 400mls when I meant it started at 400mls . The bike has now done 4,400mls and at the 600ml service it didn't make that noise but did get them to record it . Its really difficult to pin down as  I covered 2,000mls without doing it and now it has started again .

The advice is still the same.
When it returns to service, record it and retain the evidence.

Do you perhaps have an alarm fitted?

At first, I thought that the sound was similar to an alarm being armed.

Another listen to the sound file in #1, but at a deduced playback speed lets me think that it could possibly be from the starter motor, in that it may still be receiving a signal to crank even though the engine has already started. Perhaps a sticky starter button or something along those lines....  However this is a wild guess on my part.

I would suggest removing the seat, with the bike out of gear, turning on the ignition, using a suitable tool to bridge the solenoid tags to get the starter motor to crank. See whether the noise is still there.

It sounds like the starter gear isn't disengaging from the flywheel fast enough once the engine is running, that whirring/whining noise could be the engine turning the starter motor rather than the other way around. I don't know how the easy start system works with regards knowing when to disengage the ring gear but perhaps your video could be shown to your dealer and they might be able to diagnose from there.

Seems like you're not alone on this issue, there wasn't a firm conclusion on this thread but my money would be on the easy start not disengaging.
