DL 1050 (2024) Coolant overflow
« on: October 18, 2024, 22:03:24 »
Dear all,

I own a DL 1050 2024 (brand new) 2000 km , and every time when I ride in the city and the temperature reaches 100-105 (never over 105) my coolant overflow when stopped the bike. If I keep the coolant level at the low level this doesn't happen. Did you encounter this behavior?

Welcome,
The coolant system is a sealed system and normally would not need the level to be altered if it is correct.
When you say overflows, where from, and are you sure it is coolant not petrol or vapor from the crankcase breather?
Are you checking the coolant level when cold?

Your bike should still be under warranty, so I recommend taking it back to the dealer and have them to do further testing.
If the dealer is based too far away from you or fully booked, any radiator firm should be able to do a radiator cap pressure test for you.
I suspect that the radiator cap may either be an incorrect pressure or possibly faulty.

Are you sure you are not over filling the expansion tank.
If it's working OK on the lower level then this would seem to be the logical reason for the loss.
I presume it's leaking from the expansion tank, is it passing the push in cap, or how is it escaping?
I would run it at the lower level for a while, keep an eye on the gauge and coolant level and if a dealer can check things over all the better.
And 105 is hot!

Right now when the engine is cold the coolant level is a little under the Low mark. When the coolant reaches +90* celsius till 105 when the fan starts the coolant level is at Full.  When I bought the bike the coolant level was above the F mark. It spit out after two rides and now everything is fine. My only doubt is if it fine to keep the coolant level at the low mark or not. I'm also thinking about filling it till the F mark and keeping an eye on it.

I would recommend not spilling coolant on your paintwork as it can damage it. Best thing would be to speak to your Suzuki dealer, even over the phone but better in person maybe.  :thumb:

Keeping the coolant between the Low and High marks is fine. Don't run it below Low. I'm sorry I thought you were saying 105 fahrenheits ambient.

Hello! A few days ago I topped up the coolant to the F mark, I have been riding the bike as much as possible both in the city and out, and I haven't noticed any leaks. I think that the issue has been some air in the cooling system since the bike is brand new.  I will keep you posted if anything changes. Thanks!
