Gear Indicator for Suzuki DL1000 K3
« on: October 15, 2024, 11:02:27 »
Hello, I am confused about which gear indicator to choose for my 2004 Suzuki DL1000 K3 when I found out that the 4-pin plug of the bike only has 2 display wires.

Does anyone have experience with this and can give me some advice? Thanks.

IIRC in top gear the dash shows "OD"
When in 5th the agle of the speedo and rev counter match
In 4th gear the angle of the rev counter is further to the verticle than the speedo
In Neutral the "Green light shows on the dash
I never felt the need to have any other indications for 2nd and 3rd.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

@johnhartman, have you had a look on https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/gipro/gpat/ ?  Have a look at the downloadable installation guide for a possible solution to the extra wire query.

BTW, your description wrt your bike's model as "2004 Suzuki DL1000 K3", threw me until you posted about the 4 pin dealer mode connector.  From what I have gleened, the K2 - K3 (2002 -2003) Vee were the only two models with a four pin dealer mode connector. As you pointed out, the connector only has two pins in the housing. If anyone wants to read more about this connector, they can have a look at the heading above the third pix in the opening post of  https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html

OP, what colour are the wires?

Only two wires in the dealer mode plug even on the 2017 650 are for communication with the ECU, how many wires does your GP indicator have? You may need to supply power and ground from elsewhere.
