Colour help!
« on: September 29, 2024, 16:47:49 »
Not a good day ......... removing wheels to get new tyres fitted and the thing fell over.    :bawl: :angry-banghead:
I had taken plenty precautions to keep it stable ... I think I actually had one jack too many and as something moved it pivoted and fell rather than just moving a couple of mm.
Anyway the tank side panel is damaged and amazingly everything else is just trivial marks.
Question is my bike silver? Googling suggests it is and gray (the other option) is much darker .... more a gunmetal colour
Want to order the right part. Should be available from webike in Japan.
Thanks

Sorry to hear of the bit of bad luck. From Web info yours is metallic mystic silver, the darker silver/grey was on models up to 2015.
There are tank fairing covers of this colour on ebay at £116 delivered atm.
Good luck. :thumb:

Thank you I am over the initial upset (I am a drama queen and undeserving of my wife who absorbs it all!) and pleased to hear it confirmed as silver.
At the moment webike in Japan (I have used before) are £100 delivered for the plastic in colour, an S badge, couple of unrelated bolts. I do see that on eBay and elsewhere I can get both sides in gray, used, for a lot less so that is an option to do a kind of colour change!
Thanks again  :)

Opps.... It happens
I strap the center stand fwd to the engine bars and have bolted a scissor jack onto a old bit of kitchen worktop with a home made fitting that locates on the engine bars ,the further fwd the better for stability...solid as , even with both wheels out and best of all...cost not a penny :icon_wink:

Have a look on the site https://www.colorrite.com/, for the paint colour info.
Simply enter your bike's make, year and model in order to display the paint colour and paint code specific for that model.

For jacking up the front, my method: http://www.vstrom.info/vsri-gallery/gallery/MM/CHASSIS/Fork+Seal+lift.jpg.html. I make use of a swingarm stand to hold the rear in place, when lifting the front end.

Sorry your bike fell over, can easily happen.
another reason it's a lot less hassle to just ride in somewhere and get the new tyres fitted? worth the extra cost.

Indeed ........ just wanted to remove the wheels and check for myself that all was in order.
I'm probably going to have to do the fork seal(s) at some point although I have bought and am using this

Definitely improving things..... we shall see.
And of course I have now taken the ratchet strap I have and passed it over the huge RSJ beam in the garage and now have the front end raised securely. A moments work. So I will know in future. They say hindsight is a great gift ...... it appears I am truly blessed. Ho hum.

For me, like many, maintaining my vehicles myself is part of the .... I won't say pleasure, but perhaps satisfaction of ownership.

So I got the new tyres fitted and put the wheels back on the bike in a happily drama free fashion.
Everything seems to work and the ABS light goes out (phew!)
Damaged panel refitted with silver duct tape cunningly disguising the damage  :icon_wink: New parts should be leaving Japan about now.
Short test ride suggests I will appreciate the roundness of the profile ........ I guess the old tyres were a bit squared off.
Pics show tyres and a small piece of dense foam found on floor (with AA battery for scale. Is it from the bike and if so where?

Did you take the side panel off?
Looks like the sort of high density foam that is sometimes stuck on the back of plastic tank shroud panels to stop them rattling or vibrating against the tank.
Doesn't have a groove in the other side does it?
Could be the fuel tank cushion listed as part 4 below;

I've had the panels off and nothing spotted yet. When I next have the fuel tank off I'll check there. In the meantime the trick is not to lose it!

Ah ..yes ..not losing stuff.
I was looking for two clips to swap the rear rack from my old bicycle to the new one.
No problem , thought I, I DEFINATELY remember putting them somewhere for safe keeping a couple of weeks ago, thinking " I'll need them".

Gone :icon_wink:

Though I have narrowed them down to "in the garage"

There is one rubber cushion like that inside the panels below the seat towards the front. It fell off on my 2015 bike and I had to stick it back on.
There are numerous cushions on most of the panels and usually the same both sides. They can normally be seen on websites like Partzilla to give you an idea.

I shall have a look tomorrow.
