Optimate cable location?
« on: July 26, 2024, 17:08:50 »
Hello all!

Just wondering if the clip shown here is a logical position to secure the Optimate cable?

Just want to be sure it's not going to become an irritation for the legs or anything.  I'm picking the bike up on Thursday

I think I'd leave it under the seat if there's room
Can't tell if that would rub on your leg, but the cable may rub on the plastic panel over time and leave a mark.
(I'm assuming there's space under the seat and access is straight forward)

You may be right there!

Well, if I can't find a use for it then I'm going to have to get rid of it somehow.  Pointless things do my nut in haha.

I'd get a hairdryer (not a heat gun) on that to soften the glue, bin the clip then clean the residue off with surgical spirit. Or E5 / E10 fuel if that's all you've got.

It is an odd place for a clip, maybe the previous owner used it for a heated jacket connector
I have the optimate cable behind my right knee on the bike, 'cos that is the side the optimate is when parked in the garage.

I'm almost the same as Nigel - my Opti cable comes out under the seat behind me arse.

Mine is cable tied to the subframe just under the seat, so accessible without taking the seat off. Just make sure to pop a little silicone grease in the cap (if you've got an Oxford one) or green crusties will appear.

Good advice, not just Oxford ones. Same goes for the connector on the charger , I had to cut back and replace the connector on my 20? year old optimate due to the green crusties a few years ago :icon_wink:

Mine sits under my seat and doubles up as the power supply for my TomTom.👍
