If I was looking for a bike I would buy it in a moment. My local shop uses them as hire machines and they get abuse and do 100k + miles easily.
I think the problem is that many people (as I did) join a forum having got their bike in order to learn how to look after the thing, not to buy one. Also if you buy on a forum you have to be prepared to wait until 'your' bike appears and be prepared to travel. Not everyone can manage both, but clearly the rewards for those who do are great.
As an aside I was seriously tempted by Alan Millyards Pan 1100 with 100k + miles on it. Maintained by Alan for well over a decade .... a bargain at approx £1400 ....... can't remember, but he is not far from London, which is far from Edinburgh. But I was tempted.
graingerblaze if circumstances permit, keep it and enjoy until eventually someone who deserves the bike will turn up.

When I was buying the 800 I considered selling the 650 myself. It wasn't in the condition yours is in but it was pretty decent but 57k+ on it. I wanted to get rid of the 'extras' all in one go (panniers/back box) & was thinking I'd be looking at £2500'ish. I asked what the dealer would give me in PX & when he said £2000 (plus he was giving me the Suzuki panniers in with the deal) I didn't think it was worth the problem of selling it myself. He eventually sold it on E-Bay for £2150 so with the E-Bay charges I doubt he made anything out of it!
graingerblaze have you asked what you'd get for it in PX for the bike you're looking at?

I haven’t as all the bikes I fancy are not with my local dealers. The bike shops near me only ever sell nearly new, they rarely get anything more than a year old in the showrooms… so I presume they would just auction my bike off. I might go in and ask, you never know I guess  :thumb:

I think that's why my man put it on E-Bay. There's not much, if anything, too old or high mileage in the showroom. I was definitely surprised at the offer, especially with chucking the panniers in, at around £800 the pair!
No harm in asking, then asking for a bit more if not happy with his first offer & then haggling a bit if you want any 'extras'.  :thumb:

The bike market is dead at present. You only have to look at classics briefly to realise you can get a 500 Velocette Venom for £5k these days, or an excellent AMC 500 single for £3k. Remember the classic market is one of toys for the comfortably off who are generally less affected by economic downturns than the average motorcyclist riding an 'everyday' bike like a V Strom.  I'd say prices are heading for 20-25% down on two years ago.

I tried to sell my 2018 15k mile DL650 with FSH and tons of extras earlier this year for £3750 with absolutely no response. I concluded that it's a great time to buy but that I should keep what I had because otherwise I'd just be giving it away. If you can possibly afford to keep it then I suggest that's the best thing. It turns out I am so glad I kept mine as I now ride it more and love it to bits. I'm very glad I kept it and it won't be advertised again for a very long time. My solution, as yours will be with your new garage, is to buy another bike whilst they are cheaper!
PS, you still haven't really said how you keep it so clean but if you'd like to pop round and show me I'll pay in beer:)

Yes you’re right, loads of nice bikes coming to the market… although all are much more than mine when comparing condition, just depends on your budget I guess. The shops I have spoken to so far have excess stock so trade in is not possible, so that’s not an option at present. The market has dropped, but when you look at bikes around £3k they are usually winter hacks and not the best, bar a few loved machines of course. Will wait and see, no worries either way.

That's a good approach. I've often had a bike that's not sold at a reasonable price but then along comes the one person that wants it.

I usually, silently, berate them for not looking at my advert months sooner and saving me all the tedious waiting time for a bike they wanted anyway!! Obviously, only after they've ridden off on it!!

Yes does not seem the best time to sell, some good nice honest bikes out there from £2 to £3k atm, that with a little detailing would look very nice. I am sure once someone sees yours in the flesh, it will go  :thumb:

Well I bought a nearly new 1050 so the 650 needs a new home. No rush but I don’t need two V-Stroms. I’m open to offers for anyone you know who wants a lovely sorted bike.

£2,400 o.n.o.

 Thank you.  :)

You must notice a big change in power from the 650 to the 1050?

Only really on the motorway when sitting at higher speeds, the 650 is a cracking engine and the bike lighter so the difference isn’t as much as you would expect. I’m doing a lot more long distance rides, so the little extra power when fully loaded is welcome but I never felt the 650 was under powered… just had to rev it a little harder.  :)

Now sold for £2,550!

Chap turned up but was genuine, wanted something more upright after his blackbird was giving him back ache. He is coming over on Sunday to collect, gives me time to find all the original parts.

Happy days as I collect my 1050 on Friday  :thumb:
