2005 DL650 for sale
« on: July 18, 2024, 20:15:05 »
Suzuki DL650, 2005 (K5), 40,185 miles - £2,800

This is my pride and joy and has been for over 6 years. I’m only the second owner from new, previous and first owner was a retired policeman who in 13 years only covered 8k miles. I have done a few miles since, but I have changed the oil and filter every 3k, and meticulously followed the service schedule to keep the bike in perfect condition.

As you can see from the photos and my posts on here over the years, I have fully loaded this bike and replaced parts whenever needed. The bike is in perfect condition, nothing to do, just after 6 years I fancy a change. It’s been super reliable and never faulted, I just fancy something a little more capable off-road as I live in the Lake District.

I have just done a full service. New oil and filter, cleaned and re-oiled the K&N air filter, replaced brake fluid and coolant, rebuilt the brakes (had new EBC discs and pads last year). It has a long 10 months remaining on the MOT (due 19th May 2025). The tyres and chain are all in great condition, nothing required for thousands of miles! The bike comes with the following extras:

SW Motech Engine Guards
SW Motech Bash Plate
SW Motech Alu Rear Rack
Custom Heel Guards
Beowulf Radiator Guard
Beowulf Oil Cooler Guard
Aprilia Tuono Mirrors
Original Suzuki Mirrors
Original Suzuki Clear Screen
MRA Adjustable Touring tinted screen
Givi D260ST Tall Touring Screen
Givi PL52 Pannier Rails
Cosmo Fork Brace
Ultimateaddons USB and Battery Volt Reader
Oxford Heated Grips
Grip Puppies
Renthal 613-01 handle Bars
Zeta Handlebar Riser and offset Brackets
Suzuki hand Guards
Custom Stainless Steel Bar Ends
Cold Covers Mesh Seat Cover
HEL Braided Brake Lines (front and rear)
Delkevic carbon Stainless Exhaust System

I think that’s covers the extras… too many to remember. I have lots of original Suzuki parts and spares, all will be included with this sale. I live in Cumbria (CA11), please call me on 07725 203061 or message me if interested. Thank you.

Some extras I remembered:

Quad Lock and 360 adjustable mount
Oxford LED. front and rear indicators (plus relay)
Original Suzuki indicators
Auxiliary CREE fog lights (plus relay)
EBC discs and pads front and rear
R&G engine covers (both sides)

It’s a bit like triggers broom, so many replacements it’s genuinely like new!

How on earth do you keep it that clean? People like you should offer cleaning tuition classes to peasants like me!

It’s a curse to have OCD, but on the flip side my bikes have always looked like new. Best way to keep clean, always garage and only ride in summer when not raining… which is hard in Cumbria!

Good luck with the sale of this, I. Sure someone will snap it up!
Incidentally, you looked at selling this 2 years ago I think, and I enquired seriously, hoping to buy this as my first bike bike!
In the end, you decided to keep it, and I bought my L4 from a chap here, which I’ve just part exchanged for my 800DE!
😀🙏
Quiet applause will do.

Yes I did look at selling before but at the time I needed a lot more money to make changing it worth while. It’s a cheap bike really, and so many bikes are not looked after well that I decided to keep her.

Fast forward to present day and I’ve saved up to the point I can now go out and buy brand new. I won’t do that, but I’m looking to change for a nearly new 1050 or African Twin, depending what I can find when the time comes.

The DL650 is a brilliant all rounder, I just fancy something new with a little more BHP. I will sell this time, been a brilliant bike but time for someone else to enjoy. The 800 is a great bike, ride one at the ABR festival but the looks are not for me. Glad you found a great bike in the end.

I forgot I also added a new battery in June. I have done a short video to show just how good this bike is:

graingerblaze    So you have finally decided to sell your beautiful bike ?
This must have been a very hard decision ?  I would say good luck with the sale but you don’t need it.  as this bike will sell so easily especially at that price.

It wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s time for a change. I think the price is fair, although immaculate and fully loaded it seems to be the going price from what I can see.

I get my new house in a month’s time, it has a lovely big double garage so I have room to keep if I don’t get any decent offers. I sold my little CRF300 rally as my friend who was storing it for me made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I could keep the wee for local fun and a bigger 1050 or African Twin for the longer tours I have planned… but I would prefer one bike, will see.

graingerblaze   This really surprises me why your bike has not sold ????
It is clearly the best classic v-Strom out there.  Good luck with Autotrader 👍

Thank you, at this rate I will be keeping it as it’s still a great bike and far too good to give away. Wrong time of the year maybe? Oh well, will see how the next few weeks go as I move at the end of August so will give up at that point.  :)

GB, like others have said, it's a beaut.
Well looked after doesn't really cover it.
The bike is a credit to you.
So why hasn't it sold? Obviously no one wants it on here but why?
Two years ago I sold my Pan 1100, I put it on the forums and other like places, not one shred of interest, this despite it being a sorted and pretty much like new 1100. I scratched my head a bit and put it on ebay. I think the reserve was £1500.00 but it might have been slightly higher, maybe £1750, no interest.
Nowt, not a sausage, not a single tyre kick.
I had no desire to run two bikes, it would just mean more expense, more working on them and less riding. None of that made sense. The VSTrom was already in the garage.
I'd owned the Pan since 2014, it had taken us over most of Europe and 30,000 odd miles over 8 years and I thought what does it really owe me. The answer was nada.
So I put it back on ebay for £1000.00 on an auction basis and the tablet went wild with interest, it sold the same day to someone who drove down from Edinburgh to view it and he offered me almost what I'd paid for it in 2014 but I did give him a shed load of unobtainium parts to go with it.
We were both happy.
In the end my desire to just get rid paid off.
I would love to park yours next to The B in the garage but it'd be an expensive itch to scratch.
Which got me wondering, besides PCP's etc, is it the cost of running a second bike that is now a factor on owning something else, don't know?
Good luck whichever way it goes.
Upt.

Thanks Upt North, totally agree and have had similar experiences when selling bikes before. I will shortly have plenty of room for several bikes, so no need to sell for room. You got the nail in the head with having more than one bike… the costs of insurance, maintenance, road tax etc. it’s not a lot I know but to be honest I prefer to have just one bike to concentrate on. I’ve had several bikes in one garage before, but I ended up just riding the V-Strom all the time as it was and still is the most reliable and consistent bike. I want to sell as I fancy a change, 6 years is the longest I have ever owned a bike and although no need to sell, I just want to. I won’t give it away so will see what happens, but I won’t use eBay as the charges are extortionate and I’m not that desperate. Will see, thanks for the positive thought.

Age and mileage put folk off I think, once the bike is over 25-30k miles they're hard to shift.
I've tried twice to sell mine, 2014 1000 44k miles but no luck apart from 1500 quid and a 20 year old Renault clio that won't start!  When I get the fresh mot  in two weeks I'll try again.
Good luck with your sale Graingerblaze. That really is an exceptional bike, don't think there's a cleaner Gen1 650 anywhere.
