Luggage
« on: June 08, 2024, 12:08:42 »
Hi All,
I’m getting my 2020 XT delivered next week and it’s fitted with Givi backbox monokey plate and Givi cam lock pannier frames but no boxes. The options are melting my head, not helped by the confusing (to me!) range of Givi fixing systems. Seems the side racks only take Givi Trekker Outback aluminium boxes that are great but about 100 cm wide so wider than the bars I like a slim bike so looking at a monokey toobox and soft panniers. Anyone recommend some soft panniers that won’t be toasted/melted by the exhaust? The racks are pretty high and look to sit kind of above the silencer so anything saggy is going to be a non starter so the likes of Lomo probably won’t work, maybe something semi rigid?
Thoughts appreciated
Cheers

I don’t carry a pillion, so I ditched panniers on my V-Strom 1050XT.

Givi 52L Trekker top box and a 40L roll bag strapped to the pillion seat. Works for me when touring.👍

Pigeon, if you've got the pannier rails fitted then leave them on, the soft luggage will rest on them & won't sag into the exhaust/wheel.

Thanks Phild, that’s the top box I’m getting and will leave on the bike most of the time for erands etc and had thought about just using my Oxford 30l roll and call it a day but it coukd be a little top heavy so thought small panniers would hold heavy (and cheap) stuff - the top box anything valuable. Too many options! 😂

Thanks Barbel Mick, yes definitely, just not sure of the angles, the racks are really high and look to be over the silencer so any sag out the bottom might get melted - hard to tell though, once I get the bike be easier to see what’s what.

Cheers blokes 👍

I'm happy with the Trekker Outbacks, I don't think they're too big.
Stay between the ditches, and keep the rubber side down

Old style Givi monokey on mine. I've just added all the racks. I usually just use the topbox, tent etc goes on the pillion but my wife likes panniers as well as she feels more protected.

And the plastic ones are considerably lighter than the aluminium ones.

Hi blokes
Thanks for the comments, nothing wrong with the Trekker panniers, but I don’t need the space and like a narrow bike - just personal preference. I’ve bought a Givi Trekker outback top box 42 litre for lockable storage and that’ll do for now! Think when I have the funds these Givi 15 litre waterproof soft jobs on the existing frames

Got a pair of old Oxford throwovers for £30, made some metal plates and bolted them to the Givi frames, nice and narrow and enough storage. They still sag a bit even though they’re semi rigid so made a heat shield from an old number plate 😂 Test ridden it and all good, ready for my next trip 👍😀
