Anakee Roads
« on: May 26, 2024, 18:47:55 »
I saw my Anakee III's were down on the limit markers last week so I'm going to change to 'Roads' as I don't do much more than a bit of grass or tracks at best as an adventue!

I changed to A III's in 2015 when my Trail Wings (the rear precisely) punctured on a French motorway at 120 kpm. I'd just passed 6k kms on those original tyres. I replaced that set in 2018. My bike is now past 46k kms so the two sets have covered 40k; that's 20k each set or 12,500 miles!

I should have them fitted by the end of the week so I'll report back what I think they're like after 'rodage' or running them in as you would say.

 :)
So how's it going so far then?

The Anakee 3's are are decent tyre for wear, or lack of. I changed the two sets I had at around 9 & 10k but only because I was heading out on two tours of 2/3k & didn't want worn tyres on the bike. I'm sure they'd have done that mileage, but not worth the risk.

My tyres arrived here today, 270€ free delivery (no such thing as no delivery cost  ). I've not bought them in pounds but 1€ buys 85 pence at the moment therefore = £229.50. I would hope you would get them cheaper in the UK. I ordered them Sunday night so only 48hr delivery.
To my surprise my local bike shop will fit them (for a fee). Normally they only fit tyres bought through them so you pay their price which they verbally quoted at 146€ front and 168€ rear = 314€ so 44€ cheaper.

Gout an Annakee Road on the rear and so far pleased with it. Have got good mileages out of Michelins in the past.

Tyres fitted today and wheels back on the bike. 31.50€. A bit steep but they weren't supplied by the bike shop. Just had to go for a ride in the afternoon's pleasant sunshine........

What a change! The ease and lightness of the steering was immediately evident. (Those old III's had flat bottoms and an edge to the sides) There seemed to be no road under the tyres anymore, just flexibility when I wanted to turn. I'll try not to get too carried away for now, I'm out Sunday on a local charity ride and two up. More later.

I've now had several decent rides out and a 4 day camping trip down in Deux Sevres to simply reinforce my initial pleasure riding with these tyres. My latest outing for La Madone des Motards last week was also me alone as I usually have wifey as pillion.
I really can't add to the improvement over Anakee III's simply because they are excellent road tyres. (IMHO)

I don't think many UK Strom riders will follow as you've too much choice but it's all very personal, isn't it.  :icon_wink:
