Clutch lever pivot bolt

Well I have stripped this bike down to the frame engine and wiring harness left.

Done all be doing bits, changed all the changing bits and fluids etc.

Cleaned it to within an inch of its life.

Put it nearly all back together except the front cowl and air box, next jobs.

And I’m buggered if I can find the clutch pivot bolt.

Madness I have tried to be very careful and not loose anything and just this damn bolt.

Looking at a schematic it shows a bolt but that would not allow for fixing the OEM hand guards on.

The brake pivot bolt does as it has a threaded female part on top.

Can anyone shed a bit of light onto where I can get one or if you have an old one lurking that I could buy.

Were handguards fitted when you broke it carefully disassembled it? There's a replacement bolt that comes with the guards, different from the standard one. Look for a similar but longer one in your pile of bits carefully catalogued Ziploc baggies. I think the shouldered part is the longer bit, allows passing through the plastic and then the clutch lever,

I have seen fitting kits from China on ebay.
When you find the original it'll be with my Pan speedometer drive screw.
Where do they go? It's a mystery.

Ha ha you are quite right, it’s a mystery. Normally I have things left over this time everything has gone back nothing spare except this pivot bolt which eludes me.

I had an ST 1100 once. Wonderful bike. Probably the best bike I have ever owned. Brought it new on an S plate I think.

Yup hand guards were fitted from new.

I always carefully dismantle, I have three different sizes of hammer.

My carefully catalogued zip loc bags, also known as little piles all over the garage have all been used up nothing left.

I think someone stole the bolt when I was asleep.

Well I’ve just tried every Ali Express or what ever it is called advertising the full hand guard set with mounting kits.

All no longer selling or sold out.

How hard can it be.

We fitted hand guards to my Sons L2 earlier in the year. Bought them from Fowlers but they only do the one kit for all now based on 2017 onwards with no info on how they fit earlier models (no longer middle bolt) a bit of web searching later and we sussed it but what a balava.
Anyway, just thought you could try Fowlers? Good luck 👍

Ooooh, EDIT:

The standard pivot bolt hasn't changed between 2013 and 2018, and the 2018 650XT version has the hand guards as standard. The bolt is £18 from Fowlers, but you can get it from Webike Japan for £7 + £12~ postage, so if you need to get any more bits for it like the accompanying spacer, washers and nuts, or other OEM parts, you might find that works out cheaper. For instance the  pivot + complete set of washers, spacer and nuts comes to £24 delivered. My last order was with me in 3 days (brake pad shims and some other small bits that are silly money here, but cheap as chips in Japan). https://japan.webike.net/products/24727342.html

The bits are spread over these two diagrams, copy the part numbers into the Webike Japan search box, and put a hyphen in the centre, so for instance "083192106B" becomes "08319-2106B", the search will then recognise it.

Think I’ll spend the day rummaging through me box of bolts then it looks like I will have to bite the bullet.

The missing bolt will turn up 20 minutes after it's replacement arrives. Stride into the garage with an empty jiffy bag, announce loudly " my new clutch pivot bolt is here!" then lurk quietly in a dark corner. The miscreant will then show itself.
