It's arrived!
« on: October 06, 2023, 09:53:42 »
Well, here it is at last. You heard it on this site first!
https://bikes.Suzuki.co.uk/bikes/adventure/v-strom-800re/

I reckon it'll do nicely, perhaps a tad expensive though. And a bit annoying to have to stump up more cash for a centre stand, sump guard and 12V socket. Yet it has a quickshifter as standard (very nice it is too on the 8S). Only problem is that I'd have to part with my DL650....that's the tricky bit!

I know I'm a dinosaur but far rather have a centre stand, heated grips than a quicksilver or tft screen.
Still don't understand the need for power modes, it's hardly a fire breathing monster. Feels like manufacturers are taking away as much rider input as possible, which is one of things I like about motorcycling.

Martin is strangely aroused by the glimpse of a silver frame. :smirk:

My mum used to say, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" .........great looking bike mate - when you get over parting with the 650 you will be a happy bunny - enjoy.

Centre stand and heated grips listed as "styling" extras.  :icon_exclaim:

I would rather have had
the bike 250 quid cheaper and no quick shifter. My wallet would thank me now and my gearbox 40k miles from now.
It's a nice bike, bit bland maybe but does address the problems I have with the DE or transalp, ie tubed tyres and two pot sliding brakes calipers.
Ps. I  see Suzuki might have finally run out of the old style indicators and the barn door mirrors!

Like many I'd have taken the centre stand and engine bars instead of frippery.
FWIW I think it looks well. Modern clean lines.
I can't see why you'd expect Suzuki would sell it cheaply, it's priced competitively in the segment and the finance deals will mean more to most than RRP.
I also suspect you'd be buying those essentials for any other similar offering.
Well done to Suzuki for making a cracker.  Don't forget the service warranty extensions too.
Upt.
Note to self....DO NOT VISIT Suzuki DEALER......not too hard, I don't know where it is and it's probably over 50 miles away.
A good package, but I won't be swapping my 650

Do not be an early adopter. Suzuki will stitch you up within a few months.

Yes that's to true, in March 2014 my strom was 10 grand, a year later it was still there and I said I'll give you 8 and half, he took it straight away, I thought damn I could have got it for 8!
I think this one will be more popular and your more likely to get a discount on the DE variant.

Are these quick shifters bad for the gearbox Porter? I have never had a bike with one so I know nothing about them.

In the early days yes as the gearbox was never designed for them. My mate raced at early R1, a bike not known for a robust gearbox. First season with no shifter one gearbox rebuild, second with a quick shifter 3 rebuilds and that was only an up shifter not down as well which is harder on the gearbox again. Could be me I just don't think there good for the bike longterm.
As has been said a quick shifter is about £250, give me that off the bike and let me spend that on more useful accessories to me, mainstand, hand guards, heated grips etc.

I think you are right Porter, the quick shifter should just be an option which I would not go for anyway,
rather spend the money as you say on something like a bash plate or heated grips,Givi racks etc.
Still though this bike has real potential, nice bit of extra power and better brakes etc over the 650. I think it will be a big seller.

Yeah I think it will be a good seller also and I'll be interested enough to take a demo ride where I wasn't with the DE.
Yeah white would have been nicer that green and it's matt green at that!

We'll go to have a look at it when it's in, maybe even a test ride? However it will need to be very good for us to get rid of the 650. Maybe get rid of some crap in the garage & make space for both?
At least they've got it in black.  :thumb:

Wonder if the front part of the beak is removable?
I do wonder if in it's introduction, Suzuki will kill the sales of the 1050 more than the 650...

Was in CJ Balls earlier they said 4 weeks  for a demo.
Tubeless front and back is good.
Quick shifters do my head in.
Can Bus electrics is a no go for long term reliability.
Can see nothing to tempt me off my 650.
But will try it so  a few years from now when finance offerings are back in sale I know what it is.

Quick shifters are great and sound better than some clutch changes. I had one on the 765 Triumph and thought it was silly and then used it all the time from the second day onwards. Keep the throttle open for upward changes and close the throttle for down.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.
