Front sprocket torque
« on: September 27, 2023, 11:25:52 »
Is it me

I’m buggered if I can put 145nm on the front sprocket nut.

Managed about 112 I think.

Is this normal or do I need more shreddies?

Cheers

Ian

And you are an ex marine!!!!  :thumb:

Seriously now, if that's the torque you want then you may need a longer bar? Good luck Ian.

Archimedes.
Give me a lever long enough... and I'll move the world

Joking apart I think you're doing something wrong.
My larger size torque wrench is 500mm long and [only] goes up to 140Nm.
Just tried it in the Vice and can get that OK (no the bench isn't upside down on the garage floor) :)
Not got it set on pounds feet by mistake by any chance... ?

I'd check with another torque wrench.

Blue loctite and the tab washer will keep it on at the torque you have achieved.
If you really want to  get enough leverage use a bar on the end plus an extension on the head. Then you can place a block of wood under the extension down to the floor to keep the extension  square with the nut. This way all the torque goes to the nut not into trying to twist the socket off.
