Does this look right?
« on: September 19, 2023, 20:21:43 »
I got my pannier rails back from the powder coaters today  :thumb:  I know the luggage on the 650 is lopsided due to the exhaust clearance but does this look right? I don't think I have done anything daft  :eusa-doh:

Both side panniers the same size? Standard exhaust? The gap does look big, but you can't have assembled the rails wrongly. They just wouldn't go.

Or would they?....

Swap side boxes over. The one on the exhaust side should be thinner than the one on the left.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I have a 46l on the n/s & a 33l on the o/s, that way the bike is symmetrical when  looking at it from the rear.
I have a photo of them looking at the bike the same as you've posted Fat Rat but not on this tablet, if you want me to, I'll post it when I get home tomorrow.......if I remember!  :)
The photo is on this forum somewhere but I can't find it.

The panniers are both 33l

Ah, that's the issue. You need a 33L and a 33R.

That can only be wrong if the panniers have reflective red stickers on them.

I have the same volume panniers on my 650 despite the exhaust. It's only a question of aesthetics and remember the wider side when parking.
So how's it going so far then?

Here you go Andy, as promised.  :)
Looking at your photo & mine, your o/side pannier rail seems to sit further away from the exhaust? It may just be the camera angle but the gaps do seem different.
2 photos, one with measurements.
46l, n/s .... 33l o/s

If you look at the distance of the rh frame and rh indicator, they seem the same between yours and MB's.
The optical illusion is your exhaust being in a different position.
My Sons Glee has the Delkevic exhaust closer to the rail than yours?

Surely this can only be visual. My boxes are the same size and the frames are different because of the exhaust. Did the powder coaters paint the frames a different colour.....  lol
So how's it going so far then?

Dark-Strom  :thumb: yes I saw the distance on the right hand side was different but I didn't spot the different exhausts.
Vstrom650's & mine are OEM & Fat Rats & your lads, after market. They are smaller circumference & no heat guard, making the gap look wider.
