Petrol gauge
« on: September 09, 2023, 10:24:56 »
I posted some time ago that the petrol gauge on my 2019 650 XT was refusing to go down below half full. I have worked round this since then by resetting the trip to zero each time I fill up and checking that against the range remaining. Normally when I fill up the range shows about 230 miles. Yesterday when I filled up the tank took 11.39 litres and the range remaining before filling was 90 miles. After filling the range jumped to 311 miles ! By my calculation that 70 mpg. I don't know if something else is brewing with the gauge itself but will wait & see. Incidentally I mentioned the problem to the dealer in July when the bike went in for it's annual service & MoT. They said they were very busy but would have a quick look. The mechanics report said they thought I was looking at the temperature gauge and not the fuel gauge !. I decided not to be really offended, paid & left.

I get 70 mpg often on my 650. When I get a new bike I always do a manual check on fuel consumption/range. My trip computer isn't far out.

I'd wonder if this is just that the tank isn't going to empty in a linear fashion.

For a 20 litre tank, that's not far off half empty? Have you double checked your actual mileage and fuel consumption vs the computer? Mine is pretty accurate.
