Hi there
Is it the ignition barrel or the starter button you are having problems with?
What are the symptoms?
The RH switch gear is about £160 new but a full strip and clean is not a difficult job and helped sort an intermittent starter problem on my K7.

The starter switch is OK, when pressed it turns over but comes up with C042

I'd suggest some dirt may have got inside the barrel or the ECU connection is faulty.
You might consider taking the ignition barrel out and either having a go yourself or take it to a reputable locksmith. Insofar as bad ECU connection - usual terminal clean up might work.
Finally, look to scrapper 2nd hand option - but if you have the immobilising ignition/chip in the key, it could be a waste of time.
Good luck

You'll have a wee light next to the keyhole if its a chipped key.
My 2009 650 didn't have it - but my 2021 XT has a chipped key/immobiliser.
Bloody Honda started this. My 954 'blade  (2003) has their HISS system. You have to buy a 'blank' with chip, get it cut and then go through a right palaver with 100k Ohm cable on the cam sensor to program the new key *sigh*.
No keys mean new ECU, so worth the £35 for a blank chipped key.

No cips on the Gen 1, just a plain metal key.
Good luck with the ignition barrel, a generous squirt of contact cleaner and then some graphite powder in the top might be a start if you've not tried already.

Lots of contact cleaner first then graphite spray for smooth operation. No immobiliser on Gen1. My 2005 1000 doesn't have one.
