Cleaned air filter but now bikes not starting
« on: May 15, 2023, 17:30:03 »
Put it back together again now it turns over but not starting. The petrol gauge is skipping over the bars like I never saw it do before. Could it be that I have messed up the electrics taking off the fuel line?

Just realised that the stock air filter is not meant to be reused.

Could It  be that you haven't connected the plug to the fuel pump under the tank, is the system priming ?

Double check all connections and your fuel pump is priming , this will make a noise when you turn on your ignition.

All connections seem OK. It is making an unusual noise when I turn on the ignition. On the instrument panel I'm getting an F1 reading, the fuel gauge is running from empty to full like I've never seen it do before. The red light in the centre of the panel is on . I'm quite surprised because I thought everything had gone back exactly as I took it off the only difference being the cleaned air filter.

If the electrical connection to the fuel tank is disconnected , it will cause the fuel gauge to flash across the screen , I would disconnected it again and reconnect it to ensure its OK

Angus, don’t worry about renewing the air filter every time.I purchased a new air filter in 2016 for my old K9 bike and simply wash it out with non-biological washing powder in the sink, rinse it well with warm water and simply let it dry naturally then store it the original box until the next time.We used to wash air filters from trucks the same way and they lasted years, plus remember trucks do a hell of a lot more mileage than our bikes do.
