LED Lights moving forward.
« on: March 19, 2023, 22:05:28 »
OK I'll admit that when it comes to electrics, I'm as useful as 2 short planks, so I've no objection to looking like a fool when asking this question. I have 2 of these on my Suzuki, they were wired in by the dealer.

What I'd like to do is move the lamps further forward, this will involve extending the cable.
I have some wire that is just a bit thicker, but not much, than what's on these lamps, am I correct in thinking that as long as I don't go thinner, than what's on these lamps, I'll be OK.
Thanks Chaps for your valued input.

You are correct in that you can use a thicker wire to provide a power feed, to connect to the aux light original wiring harness.

Just make sure that your joints are good and are properly instulated plus weather-proofed for when exposed to the elements.  Insulation tape simply don't last.  To weather-proof the connections you may want to use heat-shrink tubing on each individual connection plus cover the complete joint bundle with a second layer of heat-shrink tubing

Also make sure that the heaver guage wire  and the joint is adequately supported as not to cause the any weight of the thicker wire to cause possible problems do to constant vibration, etc.

That's absolutely brilliant. Thanks ever so much for that. I'd sooner look a fool, than bugger up my bikes electrics. I'll now go ahead and move them forward. Again thanks ever so much for that.  :ty:

Thanks to all above for your input. I moved them today, and had enough of the original cable so I had no need to extend them at all. Again thank you all for your advise.  :ty: :ty:`
