FI light after winter lay up
« on: February 06, 2023, 14:47:17 »
I fired up the Glee today (she has been laid up since November) to give her a run out and I have the dreaded FI light. Any predictions as to what it might be before I get the tools out?

Well, if there was a prize, you would be disqualified for taking two guesses  :smirk:

Get out  your manual and read the bit about "Read out Meanings", then follow your nose. That is what I would do but in the afternoon I would call a garage and speak with the mechanic as I should have done in the first place.

Could it be that the battery is not fully charged? I don't know. Sorry.

No point in guessing, put it in dealer mode & get the code.  :thumb:

Air temp sensor, because little gremlins that (left) mine undone have now infested your garage. :P

It will be because of the fully synthetic oil as opposed to semi synthetic 10W40. Also the rear tyre might be down to 35PSI, and you only had 2 turns of preload rather than 3.  :stirpot: :stirpot: :stirpot:

Happy to help as always  :thumb:

I would personally start with battery checks, ECU voltage may have dipped during cranking if it hasn't been run for a while. Be interested to hear if it ran fine and if it came back after the "off and on" test.

Sorry folks, I haven't had time to look yet, in fact, I can't even remember where the Dealer mode connector is on the Glee. If only there was an online resource full of V-Strom owners that I could ask  :smirk:

The code is C44 so Kwackboy may have won a prize (if there was one)  :smirk:

The throttle linkages were making a racket too so I have given them the good news with some lube.

What are peoples experiences with an Oxygen Lambda Sensor Eliminator Kit on the Glee?

Try taking it out and giving it a light clean with a soft wire brush first.

Always good to have the sensor working , telling the ECU the correct info.

Damn, I'm in the same situation as you - the FI light is on my glee too since a slightly longer layup.  Best check the code.

The smart moto works OK, gives more torque low down. I first changed the exhaust which left a slight flatspot, the eliminator moved it and reduced it slightly and then the hiflo branded air filter change brought it all together. My Ninja 650 can't close the gap to my Son on my old restricted Glee from the lights.
Its a bit of a torque monster lol. It's even made it past the 5k mile mark for an L2 lol.

Having had a long lay down after looking at the cost of a new Lambda sensor from Suzuki  I took a punt on one of these to see if the fault cleared  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325097715803

It did. I am now looking into my family tree to see if there is any Yorkshire hiding in there because I am really struggling with the idea of parting with that much cash for a bloody sensor  :old:

If a bike has that eliminator fitted, will it still be considered Euro 3 compliant? Or will it now fail to meet the standards for the new ULEZ that are being proposed for many towns and cities?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

FAIL... but don't tell them!

I made the lambda sensor wireless a few years back, meaning I fitted a O2 eliminator plug and cut off the wires on the exhaust end- the whole exhaust system needed to come off to get to the sensor.

I left the lambda in place, so it looks correct at least  lol

My bike must have copied yours, as it's a C44 too.  So I've copied you and ordered that same eliminator!
What's annoying is that my Glee has been rolling road tuned, and one of the first things they did was turn off the O2 sensor.  However it deactivates it in the software, but doesn't stop the core system in the ECU checking it still works.
Hopefully the eliminator will be a cheap fix.

You didn't fancy replacing the £250 - £300 sensor then?
