Another question.....
« on: January 30, 2023, 11:55:08 »
This is becoming a habit.......
SIDESTAND FEET.
My 2017 650 needs a bigger foot, however it has the oem centre stand fitted.
Anyone know of a sidestand foot that will fit.
I think Adventure Tech in the States have one but they won't reply to my request for possible UK delivery.  :violence-smack:
If not I'll weld a new foot on.
Thanks in advance.

I bought one for my Vee but it fouled on the centre stand as they hadn't allowed for that since it wasn't a standard fit across the range. If you've fitted a centre stand yourself then you may need to modify the plate to clear, I ground the heel portion of their foot away and it works fine now.

Louis moto sell one, think mine came from them as it just about touches the centre stand but as above I just ground it down a tad with a grinder

I have an AMC bigfoot, it doesn't interfere with my SW Motech centrestand. They come in different colours, you might like to have a browse. It was £43 incl. p&p but I had to gently file a small portion away to fit the Suzuki sidestand. AMC, Unit 4, Lisle Road, High Wycombe, Bucks. (01494 451251) or google them.

I guess some centrestands will be OK but you might have to 'adjust' the bigfoot; yes, I know that's what you're looking to avoid.
So how's it going so far then?

I put one of these on mine & it's been fine for a few years now.

However, the same as Rixington, I had to take a grinder to it to remove a small portion, took all of 30 seconds.  :icon_wink: I have an OEM centre stand.

Rixington buddy,
You didn't happen to buy their mirror extensions as well did you? They look quite well made too and not daft money.

I didn't no but I've had one of their GPS mounts as well and that's also built like a tank.

Bought this in May last year, it's been great, especially on gravel.

Just be aware of these if you like the corners. I fitted one to my Veek, can't remember the make but it hit the ground and hard before the hero bob.

Thanks Porter, that had crossed my mind.
Although I'm pretty certain fully loaded with luggage it may need a little additional cm² to keep things steady.
It wasn't a problem on the Pan but the bike and luggage was nice and low, on a CBF1000 I had where the oem luggage sat higher it just wanted to fall on its side.
I hate making decisions....

I remember years ago a row of bikes in the carpark at Donnington race track all fell over like dominoes when a side stand sunk in the hot tarmac on a very hot day. I'll bet the offender wished he/she had fitted one.  :bawl:

Keep in mind that if after you have installed the side stand / kick stand foot print enlargement and your ride suddenly starts cutting out for no reason when riding over uneven or rough ground,,,, it could be possibly due to this side stand mod.  Sometimes the foot print enlargement size or weight, combined with a weakening side stand spring / your foot placement on the foot peg, etc. could be enough to activate the side stand safety switch.  It may sound far fetched, but worth keeping in mind....
If you have access to a 3D printer, you could print something similar to this one that was posted for a 1st gen Wee, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2427174
If you intend welding on the side stand, perhaps read the advice in reply #1 of https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,6662.0.html. It could save you some unecessary expense on the ECU and maybe ABS

Thanks folks and also Gert for your welding advice. Although I can weld and have an arc welder at my disposal, I'm actually more of a grinder than a welder; so if I did go that way (jury is still out) I'd probably mock it up in Aluminium and then get someone proper to stick it on in steel whilst it's off the bike.
Although it's ages since I've had arc eye and that's always fun.

If you are going the DIY route, have a look at the advice in https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/15-minute-side-stand-fat-foot.435529/ (15 minute side stand fat foot)
You may require an assistant to help check on the side stand vs center stand clearance. A easy fix if required when doing a DIY project.

Thanks again Gert, great information. I think I might try messing around with different thicknesses this weekend and then decide whether to go DIY or Marselus, or..........
There's no rush, the roads are still very crappy, the 50 mph winds aren't too appealing either.

If you do get around to the project, a reminder to post a few pix of the solution you ended up with.

Gert, will do.
6mm aluminium plate sourced and M5 stainless countersunkscrews and nylocs on their way. I figured I'd give it a go and if it goes badly I'm into it for less than £5.00. The foot only misses the oem centre stand on the 2017+ 650 by a couple of mm.
The stand foot already has one hole drilled at about 5mm diameter and I've drilled one more. There will only be room for two bolts.
If this don't work I may weld a steel plate on.

Better late than never. Made a start. It's very tight for space on the 2017+ 650's, I can see why they're not readily available. Just had to drill one more hole in the side stand.

I like the mod you've made to your existing sidestand. I wish I could weld.

I bought an SW Motech foot for my Vee but the damn thing fell to bits after a few months so I bought a cheap one off ebay and its been great since then.
