650 L2 130k mile service
« on: December 19, 2022, 17:01:26 »
Hello

I am in the process of servicing my 650 L2 at 130k miles.

Valve clearances have not been checked since 100k miles so that was my first job.

Both front and rear cylinders were in spec, but the front exhausts had closed up and in the lower half of that spec at 0.23 to 0.25mm.

So, as I was that deep into the bike I decided to change shims (old shims at 169 and new shims at 165).

Fitted new spark plugs (bikes third set) and buttoned everything up on the pots.

Now getting to clean things and put them back on before I check the swinging arm bearings.
What fun over the Xmas period, but its sad, as I enjoy doing it.

that's some mileage Crazyhorse is it the first time you have had to adjust the valve clearances, asking as I have 60,000 on mine but haven't looked at the shims yet, well not since the recall when the bike was a couple of years old.

Hi Vstroppy

No, its not the first time doing the valve clearances on this bike.

I have been in there four times now, and if things go well in the future I will go in again at 160k.
