that's competitive isn't it? Bit cheaper than the 700 Tenere, a lot cheaper than the KTM 790 Adventure, not sure how much the new Transalp will be or how much the 800GS is....same ballpark I'd think.

Crump, I was thinking the same.
Why should Suzuki trade at the budget end of the bike market.
But like always, it's your own choice where you spend your brass.

Too much for me, I'd just buy the 650.
To me, and maybe only me its another adventure bike rip off. Same engine, frame, tft etc as the 8s but it's 2400 quid more! It's not like the 8s doesn't come with wheels, brakes etc etc.  Sure the vstrom is larger, longer suspension etc but does that cost over 2k more, not in my book anyway.

A grand more than a Triumph 850… think Suzuki may struggle with that cost. Suzuki’s were always the no thrills budget brand but with Japanese reliability. They were (almost) always cheaper than the competition, but not now.

As mentioned by Porter, the GSX-8S is £7,999 so I was expecting the 800DE to only be a grand more. The new Honda 750 Hornet is a grand cheaper than Suzuki, so if the Transalp ends up a grand cheaper than the Suzuki, then they could have issues shifting these. Might be some good deals or lots of goodies thrown in next summer

I think they are mental if Suzuki truly think the bike is worth that price.

But they do have a habit of inflating the launch price and 3 months later slash it.
Iirc the 2014 1000 was around 11k at launch, then dropped to around 8.5-9k a couple of months later.

That's true, they even threw in luggage options at one point. A right kick in the teeth for the loyal, early adopters.

Yes when the 2014 1000 was launched it was £10150 but within 6 month I got mine for £8500. I think it'll depend on what price the Honda transalp comes in at. If it's less the vstrom will be a difficult sell. Plus other bikes still haven't got their 2023 list price's as yet, they might go up like everything else.
Even if I was interested in one (I'm not) I'd wait till this time next year, I think there might be a few yellow models stuck in dealers!

Hmmm, £10 400 seems a bit eye-watering to me. Sadly, I fear it's a case of wrong bike, wrong price, which is a shame.

The price is "what the market will bear" and not actually related to what it cost them to make. If it doesn't sell too well the price will drop a little. They're there to make money and not because they're a charity. I didn't buy Nutella yesterday when I saw the price had jumped by 30p and my favourite jam has gone from 79p to £1.15, but they know that in a couple of weeks I'll have got used to seeing the price and I'll pick it up again. Same with everything.

This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Why should Suzuki trade at the budget end of the bike market.
You trade at the end of the market your product deserves to be in. If you sell bikes with metal which rusts at the mere mention of water, and you source your fastenings from a dairy, then you're not setting your stall out at the high end. My now 12 year old KTM is showing less signs of age than my Glee did within 18 months from new.
You can put any price you like on what you sell, but people won't pay for your aspirations.

The finish on Suzuki's may be a bit thin but if you keep on top of it all is well. My 2014 with 41k miles still looks like new. My KTM 990 lasted 3k miles till the alternator nut fell off and took the crank with it! New engine under warranty but when it was fixed I left the dealer on a different bike.

2017 650 here, no rust to mention, although it had little use from its previous three owners before I bought it in April. Speak as you find and I would say the finish is lasting well at almost 6 years old. How much rain and salt it's ever seen I haven't got a clue.
But if a good finish commands a high price then why are the fasteners on many BMW's so dire. I'm not bashing Beemers but it's a fact that many of the fasteners rust before their first service.
Like I said earlier folk will spend their money where they damb well please, I suspect the bike will sell well. But time will tell.
The actual cash price may be fairly irrelevant anyway in this PCP world.

Serious question; do Suzuki actually expect to sell the 800DE in any kind of volume in the UK?

I fully understand that ADV's are dead on trend these days, think the 1990's repliracer sportsbikes, but is this priced just to be in the ballpark internationally, as I really would expect America, possibly Australia, maybe Canada and South Africa to be more receptive markets, mostly because they actually have many miles of 'roads' where a 21" front wheel, decent suspension movement and ground clearance are needed.

The comparison with the Tiger 850 only works if you can find a Tiger 850, I have been laughed at (literally) twice at two different dealers over a year apart when asking if they had a demo bike. That may have changed now but my last time of asking was only six months ago and at Fowlers on Bristol.... but I'm getting off track.

My very local Suzuki dealer has said they will have a 800DE in the showroom as soon as they can get one, but given the  £3000 discount they were recently offering on two VStrom 1050's they had in stock, I can't help thinking as plenty of others have said, that early adopters of this bike are going to get stung.
The older I get, the better I was.

In a not dissimilar vein, the 2023 standard 1050 will be £12999 list, which, whilst it gets the TFT dash, cruise control and alloy wheels (not the spokes that everyone complains about) that list price puts in very competitive company with other players - Tracer 9/GT, Multistrada V2, Africa Twin etc. where traditionally Suzuki has won sales based on being better overall value (with a lower price making up most of that 'value').

In the USA  (IIRC) 30% of roads are unpaved and dual sport motorcycles come into their own.

Early days on my 1050  16 months and 16k miles but finish is holding up a lot better than my last Honda

I paid £8.5 for my new pre-reg which seems a bargain , prices of everything have gone crazy

cheers Steve

Triumph Tiger £9495 or the Suzuki £10499
No contest the Triumph every time. On looks alone for me too.

As mentioned by NeilM, getting hold of a Triumph may be a tall order… but I would rather a long waiting list and a grand in my pocket than go for 800DE. I agree it’s likely to come down in price, feel sorry for early adopters in that case.

Given the weight and price of the 800, I would rather buy a nearly new 1050XT. Having said that, I love my 18 year old 650 so not changing yet. In regards to finish, it’s in perfect condition and I’ve found it better finished than almost all the bikes I’ve owned.
