@FR in similar circumstances sometime ago after a couple of derisory offers from the insurers for my written off car I asked them to replace my write with one of similar miles and condition - result was a much improved (realistic) offer  :old:

As I previously said Andy I am not surprised they have written it off I know it’s a beggar, but as you know the van and really like the van if you are interested ask the price to buy it back ?

I would have if the damage was just cosmetic. Apparently the whole structure, including the roof is twisted.

The estimate to repair was more than £15k.

Back in the late 80's, I re-shelled a Bedford Rascal van for an insurance company. Again rear end damage (the owner's son reversed it into a pillar at a petrol station at speed), the floor, both rear lowers and roof were rippled. A new painted shell wasn't a great deal back then.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I wasn't born in the eighties, so I have no idea what a Bedford Rascal is

They say that you only know how good your insurer is when it comes to a claim. I am with Aviva. My crunch was on the evening of the 6th December, by the 7th I had a hire van on the drive, I had appointments booked with a Doctor and a Physio.  :thumb:

The appointed Solicitors also contacted me on the 7th and all paperwork was completed.

There was a slight delay getting the van collected to be taken to the repairer to be assessed because of the snow we had here, however, within a day of receiving it, they assessed it and deemed it a total loss.

That same day, I was contacted by the insurance assessor and he made his initial settlement offer for my van at £15,750 plus VAT, I should point out that I bought it new in 2019 for £15,400 plus VAT.

I declined the first offer and entered into a few rounds of negotiation, I deliberately went quiet for a couple of days after each offer. Today I have received the agreed settlement of £18,000 plus VAT

Believe it or not, I was driven to the church in a Bedford Rascal for my wedding.

Mind you, I was driven from the church in a 1947 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith with a beautiful passenger.

I had to take my best man on the back of the V-Strom - he didn't drive and I only had the bike licence.   :auto-dirtbike:

A decent result there Andy, but the question is they are obviously working on what that vehicle would cost to buy today and vehicle prices have gone up massively in the last 18 months.

I paid 7.5k for my car back in May 2021 - now I'd be looking at another 3k for the same car with the same mileage and 3 years old.
