The smoothest shifting bike I have every ridden is my 1983 CX500ec.
That's when things got engineered properly and they put a nice shaft drive on the bike to keep it all smooth and reliable.
If anyone thinks I'm pushing on a bit and want to go back to the good old days - you are correct on the 2nd bit and wrong on the first bit - the CX500ec is older than me.
The whole quick shifter thing for the road really does make me think about all the electronic features on modern bikes that take away from the purity of the ride and taking away the need to be a skilled rider.
Yes, the electronics can make things safer, but I don't choose to sit on top of a metal can of explosive liquid that's carried over a hot engine and balance it all on 2 wheels that can go at 130+mph because it's the safe thing to do
On a track it's a safety thing, there is less potential for f**k up and if everyone else is using one and your not then why disadvantage yourself.
On the road - nah, I don't like automatic cars or bikes and what you effectively get with the quick shifter is a semi-auto. and Hello how long have we been using the conventional clutch/shifter configuration?
Each to their own I suppose.
