650 front brake swap
« on: August 06, 2022, 11:35:01 »
After changing from the V-strom 1000 to a 650 I am not gelling with it as much as I did the 1000.
I do appreciate its lighter which was the issue for the 1000.

I have been on three demos this week Tiger 900 ,Tracer 9 and NT1100.while each bike has better areas than the 650 ,none have given me the urge to change, I also hate there modern switchgear with a mass of buttons to navigate.

With this in mind I am looking to alter the 650 to try and change some of its short comings from the 1000
The most noticeable area is the brakes(even the wife notices them).
I have ordered some Honda four piston callipers and now have a couple of questions that hopefully someone who has also done this conversion can help with.
First SV racing or Cosmo adaptors? then keep the standard master cylinder which is 14mm or look at a radial version?

If I can sort this I will probably have to look at improving the suspension, but one thing at a time.

Definitely worth doing. There are few threads on this if you search. I changed my 08 DL1000 and it made a huge difference. I bought the Cosmo adaptors and some braided hoses. I left the master cylinder alone. Easy to swap over if you know what you are doing.

Thanks, I will go for the Cosmo one's if yours were OK as they are a bit cheaper .
I will need to wait until the brakes arrive to check the centres.
When I get them they will be stripped down and cleaned up in the ultrasonic bath, before fitting new pattern seals, which I have seen on sale.
As I will now commit to the bike I have some Fatbars and risers to fit, so  I will need new lines which will need to be longer anyway.
I have also just bought a used exhaust to which I can cut off the end can and install my carbon can from a NC750x.

Sounds like some good upgrades. If you have the CBR600 Nissin calipers the spacing is 63mm, but double check. Always worth cleaning. I got mine off eBay and got my mechanic to strip, clean and fit new seals.
