Service cost
« on: July 23, 2022, 12:06:56 »
Hi,

My 2014 DL650 is fast approaching its major service interval @ 15000 miles.

I have used a non main dealer for servicing for the past 3 years and have been happy with his service and price so far.

What cost including vat for this major service do you think I should prepare myself for please?

Thank you.

I don't know to be honest as I service my own but if you calculate the cost of all the parts required all you need to do is add the cost of labour, if you say one and a half hours at £5O  per hour you may be close? Let us know the true cost please, when you have paid the man.  :thumb:

Ask the garage you've been using.
It's a big service but the real addition to this service will be the valve clearance check. If they find all's in spec then a couple???? of extra hours labour but if the shims need changing then a few more hours on top of that?

Had my DL1000 done 6 weeks ago; was £200 all in, the valves were in spec, watched the chap undertake all the work so have piece of mind too and a good chat. Wish I had done it myself (well once I knew they were all in spec). Got the TPS set to it's proper setting which has enhanced the bike massively since......

Thank you to all contributors.

My local bike shop has said to start saving and indicated a cost of £500-£600 for this major service.

I am not able to carryout the work myself. So would this be a realistic price to expect from a non franchised Bike shop?

Just looking for price indicators and I will enquire at other bike shops in my area.

Cheers

A friend has just been quoted £300 for valve check if all are in spec and up to £450 if they need shims (the 650 is slightly trickier of it needs shims doing then the 1000i believe). That's just the valve check, no other service items and it's a reputable bike shop who are a main dealer but not for Suzuki. I would say based on her other quotes that what you've been told is pretty accurate.

My wife and I have just had the 7500mile service on her 650 and my 1050. Cost was £280 per bike at York Suzuki main dealer(actually it was £252 but I have a defence discount card which knocks 10%off - blue light card does the same).

Whilst there I asked the price of the 15k miles service including valves. He said it was £380 plus the cost of any shims and extra labour if needed. Which I don’t think was that bad when I factor in I will get 10% off.

Just paid £133 for the annual service 5000 miles at a main dealer. won't grumble about that.

I usually do all my own servicing and maintenance work, but I decided to use a specialist for the shims and front forks. I went to More Moto (Gislingham, Eye, Suffolk IP23 8JD) as they specialise in Suzuki engines, the mechanic there tunes SV650's for racing so he knows his way around. He charged me £500 for measuring and replacing some shims, rebuilding my clutch, changing the front fork oil and seals and rebuilding my rear shock. I thought that was a great price as it took him hours. Very knowledgeable bloke, would highly recommend!
