Output shaft/ front sprocket bearing 1000xt
« on: July 13, 2022, 10:31:03 »
Help greatly appreciated. Is there any way of telling if the output shaft bearings are OK?. No front sprocket presently on and if you run the bike through it’s gears there’s no strange noises. 1000xt 2018. I’ve stripped 50%splines on the shaft and intend to come up with a thought out solution as stripping the bike completely down is a non starter.

The output shaft bearing is a large bearing and it would take a lot to wear it out, I've seen bikes that have covered hundreds of thousands of miles and the bearings are solid.

A rare knackered one would have and up/down or side to side movement.

You say half the splines are worn, was an ill-fitting sprocket fitted at some point ..?

You have two solutions , fit a new spline or weld a new sprocket to the shaft.

Exactly which section of the splines are damaged, where the nut goes on or the area under the sprocket?
If under the sprocket, looking at part #43 (spacer) shown in the diagram of https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/Suzuki/motorcycle/2018/dl1000a-xa-vstrom-2018/206a-transmission it may be possible to modify the spacer to support the sprocket.  The idea comes from something that I read in the Stromtrooper site.  See how to modify the in reply #24 in https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/front-sprocket-play.438521/page-2#post-5622225

The forum has put a capital 'S' for 'Suzuki' change it to a lower case 's' in your browser to open the page.  :)
