Is this acceptable on a two year old bike?

No. Warranty issue.
Is that the exhaust?

It is frustrating but for an exhaust I would just get a tin of high temperature paint and respray it myself.

I've resorted to high temp paint too though mine is a lot older than yours (though didn't look like that in 2 years).

I guess you could go and ask for warranty- if the rest of the bike looks well cared for, Suzuki might just replace it, and if not you have paint as a backup. Of course a replacement will mean going back to have photos taken then back again for fitting. Paint is a 10 min job if just doing that small area.

You need to check the warranty paperwork to see if it covers fairly minor cosmetic issues or just mechanical failure of components. If the exhaust is still fully functional, and the area is largely covered with something, then a dealer might not be overly keen to entertain having it refinished. I can't realistically see them putting a new exhaust on it for that bit of surface rust.

Maybe not, but Yamaha replaced some fork legs on one of my bikes for a bit of corrosion that appeared on the lowers.
I guess without asking you don't get (but equally the dealer might just paint it like FR said)

As said , paint it.

Compared to the rigmarole of dealing with a debatable warranty issue, I know what I'd choose.  :thumb:

If you decide to paint it, I would treat it with rust preventative first to neutralise the corrosion. Obviously it's not acceptable but I doubt it's covered by the warranty. "they all do that sir".

Definitely not acceptable on a two year old bike, unless you've been riding it in the sea.

I've now done 43,000 mostly commuting miles on my 2016 650 XT and it's going "Rat Bike", I haven't time to wash the salt our local council love chucking out come rain or shine  :angry-banghead:

I part ex'd my 2020 DL650 this year. It too had rust on the exhaust and several other places. I live by the sea and rode through 2 winters obviously with not enough protective spray! It was my third V-Strom each of successive gens but this was the worst. I used non ht spray before selling - the end cans don't get that hot and have always done that on many many black mufflers without any problem. Looks fine still at the dealer waiting to be sold. I must look after my new 1050 better next winter as Suzuki finishing is not improving imo. An afternote: take care when buying used - many have been tarted up for sale. Some are genuine but clever sods like me paper over the cracks  :smirk: Probably why I usually buy new.

:stirpot: there really is no excuse from motorcycle manufacturers regarding paint corrosion.
This is the O/S/F hub off my 2005 Volvo. I wiped the road crud off and the paint still shines underneath.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Yes but if Volvo built a bike it would weigh 800kgs, the paint alone is more than most Suzukis

I had to repaint a couple of bits on my L2 within the 18 months I owned her from new, despite liberal ACF50 from new. I'm yet to have to take paint to the KTM in the 9 years I've had her.

I bought some ACF50. What a waste of money that was!

As its just painted black its probably mild steel so it's only ever going to go one way. My 14 thou has a stainless end can, no rust at all but I see the later models went to black paint and probably mild steel.
My KTM 990 had a super finish but the alternator nut fell off and took the crank with it, its easier to repaint than rebuild.
To me I'd paint it or better still a nice wee end can purchase.

Looking at this, I'm amazed my 5 year old 650's, with 40k+ on it, exhaust doesn't look worse than it already does!
