Oversized Rear Tyre
« on: June 07, 2022, 11:54:35 »
Now I know its not necessarily in keeping with the character of the bike, but has anybody attempted/experienced putting a wider back tyre on their V Strom DL1000.

How close is the current tyre to the chain? swing arm etc?

My tuppence worth:
A wider tyre will not necessarily offer any better traction/handling. In fact, because the side walls will be more squashed (bulging even!), it could make the tyre too flexible and work against you.
The only way to benefit is to have a wider rim as well.
And has been stated, is there room for this?
I suspect that the designers at Suzuki would have done the maths and concluded that the fitted wheel and tyre were the best for the bike design.
Of course, I stand to be corrected by the more erudite members...  :icon_wink:

Anyone interested in going on the tyre darkside route, have a look at the videos in reply #8 of https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=40836.0
