It happened today….
« on: April 28, 2022, 19:07:00 »
Dropped my V Strom…

Stopped on a gravel car par, put my foot down and it slipped, bike went down on the near side. Broken clutch lever and cracked hand guard, the engine bars took the brunt and did what they were designed for, (saves the beak).

Absolutely gutted, it’s a 7 year old bike without a blemish on it.  :dl_smiley_banghead:

Ahhh well. could have been a lot worse.

Please could anyone recommend parts suppliers, not had to buy anything before. A quick google find a slew of Euro parts suppliers.

Thanks in advance.

What a pain!!  You’ve done well keeping it upright for 7 years.  Invest in some Barkbuster hand guards ready for 7 years down the line!!  Saves the clutch/brake levers!  I “laid” mine down twice in 12 months.   Fortunately only marked the crashbars!  Oh and a pannier, which I then covered in wrap to hide the marks!!!  🤣🤣.  We’ve all done it but it’s so annoying!!

Brake/Clutch levers are readily available at decent prices on places like fleabay (aftermarket pattern pieces for less than a tenner), but you'll find the handguards a little harder to get at a reasonable price.

OEMs are £50+ and aftermarket offers are still £40 ish.

If you have the patience and are willing to risk it - aliexpress are selling Handguards for around £20, or complete with screw/bolt/spacer sets for around £30 - just go to aliexpress and type in 'DL650 handguards'.

Here is an example:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003840928003.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.e2b63a6dqZSszB&algo_pvid=130cdf19-89e7-43d6-8470-3566f6f9e3e5&algo_exp_id=130cdf19-89e7-43d6-8470-3566f6f9e3e5-3&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2212000027315688280%22%7D&pdp_npi=1%40dis%7CGBP%7C%7C13.64%7C%7C%7C6.55%7C%7C%402100bde316514085310333644e85cb%7C12000027315688280%7Csea

but there are dozens of suppliers offering prices from £20-£30odd.  Pick your poison :)

I have bought some from these suppliers: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000934391833.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.43dc1802TINqo6

Lead time is about 3 weeks.  The Handguards alone were only £17... but £28 if you want the bolts and spacers as well - and they are...fine.  They look the part, they work, but will crack like a chocolate Easter egg if you drop the bike again.

That said, the OEM ones have done exactly that every time I've used them, and I've dropped my '12 Glee 3 or 4 times over the past 8 years, so I gave up spending silly money and just went with the Chinese ones...

Good Luck, and ditch the beak!
