DL1050 tank range / mpg
« on: June 28, 2021, 20:12:46 »
Hi
Currently trying to find a good deal on a dl1050
I had a test ride and averaged 52 mpg , demo was brand new so engine not broken in / still tight
Just wondering what dl1050 owners who commuted on theirs were getting mpg / tank range
My daily commute is 30 miles motorway & 20 miles A roads at legal-ish speeds
Just be interested as hoping to get 55+ , 220 tank range if possible ridden legally ?
Cheers Steve

Hi Steveg
Bought my 1050 XT back in March just completed 1000 mile running in period and thought I would do a real world MPG test, so brimmed the tank with the bike on the side stand ran it till the last block on the fuel gauge started to flash brimmed the tank again and then worked out the MPG came out at just under 55MPG The bike was in mode B and a mix of A & B roads, the bikes said 56MPG so the bikes computer wasn't far out.
Hope this helps.
Brian

55 mpg on the 1050 is very good, I'm averaging around 60mpg on my 650.

I am only on a 650, but over the last year and 22,000 Km have averaged 74.4 mpg.
This is in Aus though and our speed limits are considerably lower and more stringently policed. There is no leeway with our highway patrol and they will stack charges against you if you contest in court.

I'm getting over 200 miles per tank full but not razzin' about.
Below 60 mph on back roads probably nearly 60 mpg but on motorways 52 ish.
I've had the bar and fuel symbol flashing but still not managed to get more that 18 litres in the tank

Many thanks for the replies

Locally unleaded is £1.34 a litre so £6.08 a gallon :(

Do approx 250 miles a week and my nc does 80 mpg so uses approx 3.1 gallon a week = £19
If I average approx 52mpg on a dl1050 mainly motorway miles  so use approx 4.8 gallon a week = £29

So the dl1050 will cost a tenner more a week or £520 a year on petrol

Many be a DL650 could be a good compromise for my use

Will have to ride a DL650 & dl1050 back to back

Cheers Steve

I'm touring around Wales on my 1050 & my mate on his 650 . Keeping to small back roads with speed limits of 50mph - 60mph , I'm getting 65mpg & my mate on his 650 78mpg ...on the motorways the 1050 is doing 58mpg & 650 65mpg .

Pottering around and hindered by traffic I saw as high as 62mpg from my 1050. Bloody boring though......
You won't match the NC but the Strom is a much more engaging ride. 55mpg is my real world average.

Thanks for the replies a real life 55mpg would be fine
The NC750 is untouchable for running costs 80 mpg does save me a fortune , hence why difficult decision to change
However I ride to work and back and don't really do many pleasure miles as don't really enjoy riding the nc just for fun :(

Looks like Suzuki have just finished their £750 off the base 1050 so not picked a good time

Hopefully Suzuki will do another deal , otherwise probably wait until next registration dates to see if I can get a bargain

Can find some pre-reg £8995 0 mile locally but on 70 plate and registered 9 months ago , do don't really want to loose that much warranty

Pity I missed the offer as new would have been £9250 _+ otr

Cheers Steve

Maybe it's worth asking the dealers with the pre-reg models if they'd extend the warranty out to the full 3 years?

Hi Simon
Yep did ask but told that it is what it is
Don't think I want to buy a pre-reg that was registered October 2020 with 9 months warranty already used , apart from that would have bought it
Now that Suzuki have pulled their £750 off offer , think I will have to wait now until next registration in September  to see if there are any more deals released

Cheers Steve

I bought a pre- reg 650 from Cupar a couple of months and got effectively 3 months on top of the usual warranty because of Covid, they said. 😁

I wouldn't worry about the warranty, chances are you'll never need it, I didn't.
I'd offer them 8k for the pre reg bike. When I bought mine back in 2015 the the dealer wanted 9k, I offered 8, we met half way. If I could get a new 1050 for that I'd  take his arm off.
I never got mine dealer serviced at all but still got the Suzuki recalls done and never needed any warranty work, at 36k miles now, using no oil and running well.

Have found a dealer with a pre-reg October 2020 also on a 70 plate for £8995

Part-x offer is fair , just the loss of 9 months warranty and not being a 21 plate , not sure if I'm better to find a later pre-reg on a 21 plate but can't find anywhere at the moment

Would a 70 reg v a 21 reg make much difference value wise ?

Cheers Steve
