Front brakes are whining
« on: June 25, 2021, 22:19:21 »
Don't know why, but the front brake on both my current 1050 and my previous 650 are whining in the exact same way when appropriate pressure is applied and under certain speeds.

Why?

Dirty pads?
My Triumph T120 suffered with brake squeal and the cure was to apply heavy braking pressure 10 to 12 times. It seemed the pads were glazing very slightly due to them not working hard enough.

Perhaps a combination of the floating front rotors and the low pressure of the brake pads, that could account for the sound that you are hearing? How much play do you have in the front rotors bobbins? An example of these rotor bobbins, is shown in a pix of thread https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=32912.0

I think the bobbins are OK - the bike is new.

I rarely brake hard, so maybe the pads are glaced. Is this common only on the Suzuki brake or in general?

In general ..

I get commuters asking about similar issues.

I advise higher speed braking, this gets the brakes hotter which benefits both surfaces.

If you are able, remove brake pads.
Clean up all of the pads with "brake cleaner", eBay item number:303735494828

Coat rear surface & end parts of pads with MINTEX ANTI-BRAKE SQUEAL GREASE CERATEC 75ml
eBay item number:183877106947
Do not get the grease on the surface of the pads.  :icon_no:

While you are at it, spray the cleaner onto the discs & wipe off with a clean rag. (while the pads are out)

With respect to previous contributors,  all that nonesense about checking the bobbins move is just Video boy claptrap and shows he is well up for giving advice about a subject about which he knows little. The Bobbins are not supposed to move and if movement is regularly induced ( bolt and nuts)then, over time, the interfaces will wear and a new disc will be required.

I ride two up a lot and the wife has a bad back to I brake long and gently but this  will glaze the pads in no time. So I clean everything with brake cleaner go out on my own and give the brakes a hard time, works for me.
