Test ride went really well , loved the dl1050
Seat height I could almost flat foot , just seemed the front pegs seemed to be in the way to where I would normally put my feet down ???
Looking out for good prices on new dl1050 std model

That's normal on the 2014 on vstrom's, the footrests are too far forward but you get used to it and learn not to get tangled up pretty quick.

I am 5-11 too, no issues other than the stock seat can give a numb bum after a couple of hours... compensate with a more comfortable seat or like me, have a fat arse.

Yeah, the seat is crap, comfort-wise.

Test ride number 2 today just to make 100% mind up re buying a DL1050 before pulling the trigger
This test ride took in a lot of heavy city filtering and stop and go ( as per my normal commute)
The DL1050 does feel a bit too tall for me and felt a bit of a hand full
Test rode a DL650 next and fitted perfect and for my use might well be a better bike for me ( even if its not a better bike than the DL1050 ) if you know what I mean

If I was using it as a commuter I'd buy the 650, if a weekend bike I'd buy the 1050. I hate to see heavy traffic on my 2014 vstrom, it's hard work.

Quote removed
Ideally needs to do both 50 miles a day commute and then weekend fun / touring ( solo)
Think the 650 probably does it all the best , even though the dl1050 is probably a better bike ?

Brilliant riding
I'm not that small ;)
Probably just that I'm used to riding bikes where I can flat foot
Think my nc750x is 830mm and can flat foot
Heart says DL1050 , head says DL650 .....
Thanks for the replies

Wouldn't a,vstrom 650 be similar to the NC750? What about a tiger 800, 850 or 900, BMW 850, xr900 or a tracer 900, more go than a DL650 but less weight than a dl1050. Just a thought.

Thanks for the thought
I have owned a tiger 800 enjoyed but don't buy the same bike twice
Have test ridden the Tracer 7 ( too small) , Tracer 9 nice but not for me
The DL650 does seem a bit similar to the nc750x apart from the engine and suspension being a lot better
Another option I'm thinking about is Honda Crossrunner 800 , but do really like the dl1050 and seems a relative bargain

I do like the Crossrunner too, almost bought one two years ago and a versy thou last year but the money to change was to much.
If the 1050 is what you like then get that. I'm the wrong person to ask I guess, someday I love my old strom others I can't stand it anymore!
Just remember the vstrom's 1000 don't hold there money great and I don't see the 1050 being any different as there discounted from Suzuki already. If like me you keep it a good few years it don't matter but if you try to sell after one or two years you'll lose big. Good luck

Normally keep bikes 4-5 years , but as I am getting older more like every 2-3 years , so many different bikes I want to own ;)

Just found out the standard dl1050 seat is 5mm higher than the xt model
A bit worried now about seat height on the standard model as the dl1050xt felt about as tall as I felt comfortable with regarding seat height
Thought the standard model felt slightly higher on test ride but did not realise the xt model was lower ....
Not sure the extra 5mm might be a show stopper ?

test rode on lowest setting
From what I've read its because the XT has engine bars fitted ??
