Knock noise<
« on: March 30, 2021, 19:43:04 »
Nice run out today, only thing bugging me at slow speed-even on a smooth road (so don't think its the "knock" mentioned in another thread)I get a knock knock knock coming from the front that speeds up if I increase speed slightly. Seems to be coming from front wheel. Jacked up and spun wheel, no problems but noticed the off side caliper seems to have a bit of movement. Could this be the culprit? Any other ideas?

Tighten the caliper and road test it. If you can't tighten it and it still has movement it may be too dangerous to ride.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Pads able to move in the caliper & knocking due to a little wobble in the disc? Knowing the model might be useful to help eliminate possible causes I.e. no point saying to look at the ABS sensor on a Wee without it.

If the caliper is moving on its sliders when the wheel is spinning this suggests a distorted brake disc .

I had a knocking noise from the front end, it was hard to know exactly what was causing it, I tightened up the mounting points and added rubber washers for the front fairing mounts and it solved the problem, there's 2 mounting points in there either side of the headlight bulbs.

Perhaps have a look for anything that may have not been tightened down correctly or rerouted, after the work that was done, as discussed in https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=39558.0

Checked everything is tight, disc are fine, not warped, so the mystery continues for now!

I've had an L2 for 7+ years now, it's also had a knock from the front end, and nothing untoward has happened to the bike or me. I've looked & checked the same as you but found nothing.
I can't hear it with ear plugs in so it's not there now as far as I'm concerned.  :)

Well125 miles today with better half on pillion, she could hear it too. Now think the noise is coming from somewhere below, maybe drive chain, but checked chain, no tight spots right adjustment, no noise when spin wheel on center stand. But definitely from somewhere below and knock speeds up as bike goes a little quicker.

Is it definitely tied to the bike speed rather than engine revs? If so, it has to be wheel or chain related. A daft question, but have you checked all round both tyres to make sure you've not picked something up?

Yes definitely related to wheel speed , but both tyres look fine, it as though something is catching as wheels turn. Bikes riding fine and handling great! Noise not noticable at speed, but at low speed the knocks  low down and the noise seems to travel up through the fairing.

It'll be your missus tapping your lid because you're going too fast. That's why it's tied to road speed...

If it was fine before, and all that's happened is that the bike has been laid up due to covid, then caliper\ pads have seized a tad- cleaning time.
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.

Hi, do you have a centre stand fitted ? If so check that any rubber bump stops have not fallen off or check the springs are fully holding the stand tight up to the bump stop.

That would largely be road surface related, rather than indexed to bike speed.
