Dog bones
« on: March 23, 2021, 14:00:06 »
Morning all, well 2 days before my Strom arrives, getting excited! Have to see how it goes, but as I'm 5 -8 tall, might need to lower it a bit. What length dog bones will I need to lower by 25mm, and where best to get them? thanks in advance, Peaky.

Hello, I recently bought a v Strom 1000 which had been lowered, it had Lust racing link's fitted ( have a look on their web site ).
Word of warning check with your insurance company first be for lowering the bike because I tried a few companies & they all wanted double the premium for a bike that was lowered ! & If you don't lower the front forks as well you may have a poor handling bike.
I decided to put the bike back to standard as I didn't really need it lowering,
Good look,
Ian.

Thanks for advice, yeh I knew about dropping forks as I did a Fazer for a lady rider. Suprised about the insurance thing- if you don't tell em don't think they would know the difference! Surely,, the whole point of lowering is to lesson the chance of dropping it! Still, see how it goes, might be OK standard, just not sure till I get to sit on it. couldn't get test ride as its coming from Middlesboro, and due to lockdown could not go there.

Good idea to wait and see. You may be pleasantly surprised - I was! My previous ('09) wee I had to put dogbones on, lower the front etc, but my 2017 DL650 didn't need lowering - and I got a shock (no pun) at how much better it handles one-lowered. All sorts of other variables at play, of course (wear and tear, differences in set-up etc), but see if you can live with it as it is first  :thumb:

I'm only 5'7" and I have the OEM standard dog bones on my bike. I have never felt the seat was too high, so hopefully you won't have to lower unless you prefer it lower.

Hello P.B. Don’t buy any dogbones yet,I have a pair you can try, they are 45mm centres, they will lower the rear by about half an inch/12mm.depending on your age.I see you are in Derby so I am only a few miles away.

I'm 5'6'' with a 29'' inside leg and have never struggled unless there's a really adverse camber or a pothole where my foot wants to go.
