F1 flashing
« on: March 05, 2021, 16:11:53 »
I have just given my 2018 V-strom 1000 its third year service in which I took the air box off in order to better thread a Hel s-s clutch line, along the frame.

After putting the bike back I had a C-21 error code for the IAT sensor ,which I had missed plugging it back in!!.

After plugging it in I still get the error F1 flashing and as the bike is SORN until April I can not take it out for a run, so does anyone know please  if the error will clear it's self when the bike is run for a few miles?

Try disconnecting the battery for a minute then reconnecting. It usually resets any Fault Indicators.

What he says above

Or leave the bike running as it may take awhile before it realises the sensor is working again
Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or die.

Post 2017 bikes use OBD II, this means that you can either use a scan tool to manually clear the fault code provided you have a suitable adaptor, or you'll need to complete 3 successful start and run cycles.

Just to clarify 3 cycles doesn't mean start up and shut off without leaving the driveway, it will need to be ridden far enough to warm up to operating temperature.

Might have to risk riding around the block a few times, to clear it then.

I will have to get the MOT done before taxing it and the clocks have gone on to km so I need to get it sorted before then.

Leaving the battery disconnected, did not do it so, I took the bike out and it was still flashing so I stopped after a couple of miles then restarted the bike and all is now back as it should be.
I am not going to get the MOT done until next month as hopefully we can start to travel out by then!

Glad it's sorted but you shouldn't be riding it if it's SORN. That equals points on the licence for no MOT & invalidates your insurance....  :icon_no:

That's good news. UK_Vstrom does make a valid point regards riding without an MOT.

Up to £2500 fine for driving a vehicle on a SORN

Yep I know it was a risk, that's why I just went around  our small local streets and not on any main roads where there are cameras and kept to 45km or less.

I am going to have to ride it to the MOT station while SORN, so that I can tax it when it passes.

Just glad that I can now set the clocks back to mph and the bike is now at the back of the garage until 12th April!

It certainly used to be perfectly legal to drive or ride to or from an MOT if it is a booked appointment.

Perhaps someone would like to clarify if that's still the case.

I forgot to MOT SWMBO's GSX in January.
It got the 6 month extension and we've never had a bike needing MOT ect in the depth of winter so didn't think about it until I was in the garage, in the bike gear and about to go fuel it for SWMBO.
Glad I checked.

A point to note.
We've had no reminder about the MOT.
The Tax is Direct Debit and the government seem to not give a $hit about MOT as long as you've coughed up for the TAX.

Is there such a thing as an MOT reminder?

Yes Brockett. I get an email reminder from Gov.uk - you can sign up for it here: https://www.gov.uk/mot-reminder

Just checked the log book and the bike was registered on the 15th and not the 1st,as I thought, so the insurance would be OK.
If you have a bike on SORN is the insurance still valid for theft?

Yes the insurance is still valid for theft just not riding on the road until you have a valid MOT. You are OK to ride to a pre-booked MOT appointment and home unless it fails as dangerous. Gov.uk warns it can take up to two days for their system to update to let you tax the bike though, so it might be a post office job if there's a delay and you're desperate to get out.

@UK_Vstrom650    :ty:    So I can get a reminder if I sign up for it.  I did not know that. With two cars and three bikes it is easy to get lost in the relevant dates. Especially so now that SORN is available  and the link between MOT and Road Tax dates becomes separated.
