And the other gears..? are they "clunky" ..?
It's possible you've lost some clutch due to maybe low/loss of fluid ..

Just a guess for now ..  :)

Don't go to work?  :)

I've never heard of this before on a hydraulic Strom, my 1st thing would be to clamp the flexible hose from the master cylinder. If the lever won't move afterwards it points towards the slave, if it does it's the master.

As Crockboy mentions check the level 1st, a quick bleed won't hurt.

Chain tension OK?

Anything stopping the lever coming fully back to the grip? A rotating heated grip did that to me once, the cable entry point was quite big and had slowly crept round to a place where it hindered the lever movement.

If you can't manouver gears around neutral have you got clutch drag? Higher gears may operate easier.........

Sounds like you've lost some master cylinder capability. As suggested is the lever travel operating full disengage?
So how's it going so far then?

Well I can't beleive the reservoir was almost completly empty. Is it dot 4?

It's usually stamped on the reservoir cap but I'd be very surprised if it's anything but DOT4. Any sign of leaking down near the slave cylinder or bleed nipple which could explain where the fluid had potentially escaped to?

So a quick update, topped up last night and tie wrapped lever. Rode to work no problems, just need to find out where it all went. I must admit I do like TL Powers idea of not going to work but I need the beer tokens  :obscene-drinkingchug:
