bonne, just book it in for the button job first. (maybe a call into dealer for quick fix)
Then if they don't do it under the warranty, or mess you about, you will know where to go next time.

So one of the (authorised) dealers actually replied back to me today, suggesting me to just spray some WD40 in it.

They should be selling "Suzuki switch spray" at an absurd price. Hang on, I've got a printer....

Andy will shortly be offering a V-Strom.co.uk range of lubricants including V-Strom specific larger bottles of ACF50 in 1gallon and 5 gallon options.

There will also be an applicator (wall paper paste brush) to help coat the wire spoked wheels to stop them corroding in damp air. (Also usable on other makes of Africa Twins and Super10)

Just checked mine, and the button stayed down. Mileage 1600 . Bike kept in garage and not used since the end of September. I used AC 50 and GT85 moving the button up and down with my fingers for about 30 minutes. It started to return little by little and eventually sprung back as it should, working perfectly. I'm certain that that's all a dealer would do; and the thought of the hassle to book it in and leave it there, when its a simple easy fix you can do yourself .

Discovered mine a few days ago before learning about this thread. I’ve been using silicone spray by WD40. About six short squirts so far... it has improved it but not fully so. Will keep on working on it.

A bad design remains a bad design. All the more reason for Suzuki to be aware of this complaint, so they can investigate or maybe redesign the switch assembly for future models. If the customers don't bring it to their attention, Suzuki wouldn't know about this complaint.

Yes, I think all these should be reported to Suzuki. It's obviously a design fault and needs sorting. Maybe a recall?

I thought that recalls were for safety related problems? Probably wrong though  :angry-banghead:

Mine was recalled for a Stator change .... was that was a safety issue?
However, I'm not sure exactly what the mode button does, could it cause a safety problem?

Good point Mick, should the iffy switch cause the bike change modes on you, would this cause an issue for the rider / be a safety issue?

Quick update.

The mode/sel switch still hadn’t returned to normal operation even after half a dozen squirts of silicone lubricant. Reluctant to merrily spray away, I decided to heat the whole switch housing with a hairdryer. Low and behold the switch after a minute of heat whilst pressing and tapping, gradually returned to proper function. I’m hoping the heat allowed the lube to creep. I’ll keep an eye on it to see if it returns to being sticky.

It could be a big safety problem Mick. There is no charge warning light on these bikes, what if the charging system failed due to a faulty stator when you were on the motorway and then the engine failed when you were in the 3rd lane ?

DVLA Manufacturers 2019 Guide to Recalls in the
UK Automotive Sector.

 Page nine
A safety related defect is a failure due to design and/or construction, which is likely to affect the
safe operation of the product/aftermarket part without prior warning to the user and may pose a
significant risk to the driver, occupants and others. This defect will be common to a number of products/aftermarket parts that have been sold for use in the United Kingdom
If such a defect occurred it could cause significant risk of serious injury or death and cannot normally be identified by routine maintenance or obvious changes to the normal handling or performance of the vehicle that the driver continues to ignore. It is a sudden and catastrophic failure of a component that occurs with little or no warning to the driver to enable preventative action to be taken.

So an update

I chose to spray first with contact cleaner, then 55-6

Until now working fine.

I guess Auth. dealer would have done the exactly same thing.

I wonder how many other manufacturer's forums can boast that their longest running thread relating to a defect/problem is for...a sticky switch  :)
