Mode button stays down
« on: January 21, 2021, 20:37:08 »
Hi... My brand new 1050 seems to have an annoying problem. Mode button is "dull" and stays down for a long time. When down, I can of coarse not use any other button.

The day before I drove in a rainy weather, but of coarse, an MC should be able to tolerate some rain.

It has 900 km on the clock. The dealer tells me that "if I go to service the bike for 1.000 km service", they will fix it.

Sorry...I find this forum to be a very positive forum. But I am a bit pissed now...

Anyone know how to fix this easy (and permanent)?

Try spraying a bit of electrical contact oil down the switch and work the switch back and forth, or is the button in the centre that's the problem?

You could just let the dealer fix it given its under warranty... WD40 might sort it, but it could be some corrosion if it keeps happening so the dealer  may replace it eventually.

Yeah, the small button in the center. As I remember the grey one.

My mode button was sticking after not being used for a while, quick spray with dry chain lube, good as new.  :thumb:

Is it that simple - just lube it? You know it is 3 months old?

Suzukis are not good around water, regardless of how new.

Mine is only 4 months old, it's a 650 but started sticking so got the treatment and works fine.  :fix:

It sounds like something Suzuki should recall. I wonder whether the dealers / Suzuki would have the same attitude, should some of your hard earned cash happen to stick in your pocket, at time of purchase and when they complained, you pulled the same type of response as they do? Maybe the consumer rights council should have a policy similar to the building trade. Hold back a payment or two for the duration of a warranty period, in case of non delivery of service.
If you are going to DIY a fix yourself, the I suggest still log a complaint with the dealer, so that there is something on record if a further complaint arises at a later date.

Bonne.

As said already, some lube should do the trick, Suzuki isn't the only manufacturer to have this issue.

Unless the button is completely broken it'll get lubed when you get it serviced.    :thumb:

I'd spray a little ACF50 on all the electrical connectors / switches to help keep out moisture and prevent corrosion on them. A little goes a very long way!

In the damp UK we have All Year Biker who does the whole bike, ends up gleaming and protected  :)

I often GT85 the kill switch and indicator switch on my Vee. Send to keep them smooth and leaves no residual oil. Have heard ACF50 as well but the pump stuff is tricky to use sparingly Vs the aerosol version.

First of all just chill out it's only switch sticking & it'll get fixed under warranty if lubeing it doesn't work.
Like others have said give it a good spray with WD 40 , I wouldn't use anything like AFC 50 as it's a bit sticky & can gunge things up.
After washing my bikes I always give the bike a good spray over with WD40, all ways do the switches , ignition switch, side stand switch, plug caps etc,
Never had any electrical problems over the last 44 years of motorcycling.

(As a side issue, regarding the video, I've seen composite doors where the colour has been stripped off by people spraying wd40 on their door locks. Yes, I see a lot of doors.)
