I applied for the test ride of 1050XT on Suzuki website but they never come back to me. Looks like they don't want my money :D Anyway, I am only interested in Cruise control but I can live without it.. My K5 Vee is still up for the job :)

I really like the 1050 XT
I used to own a DR750 Big back in the day and always liked the quirky looks of that.
Love the square headlight and the spoked wheels , I'll probably buy one in 3yrs or so when they are £5-6k used.
Only thing I don't like is the exhaust, it looks like luggage that's slipped down the side of the bike.

My K6 with various mods (Ohlins shock, front fork set up and power commander) is plenty for me

Took it out for a second test-ride, half day, really enjoyed it ! Handling is quick, power is spot on. Read somewhere (could be on this forum) that you should sit back in the seat as you get a bit more support, and bingo - it was comfy.

Only issue I had was with vibes on the throttle side of the bar when I took my wife out on the back for 30 mins. Weirdly did not get this when solo. She also said she got vibes through the pillion seat. I put this down to needing to bump up the preload (which I had not done).

As I've now looked at every other ADV bike out there, and still come back to this one, I've decided to go for it. Orange and white with the heated grips. Got a great trade-in for my 2017 AL7 DL650, so happy man  :)

I still love the 650 engine though, so at some point may get an older SV to play with.

@Scatz
Glad you decided to take a 2nd test ride ( what happened to wait to after the winter to see on prices etc  lol)
But I agree if you like the bike and it does just what you want it to then go for it  :thumb:
The Orange & white is the colour I would go for as well as I said in my original post.
Good luck with your new bike when do you pick it up ?

@Asmith61

They've ordered in the Suzuki mega-expensive heated grips, once they come in it should be quick as I suspect I'll get the bike in the showroom. No dates yet, but should be soon, maybe another week I guess.

Currently thinking of whether to go for the side-cases as they are small for panniers (don't like the huge stick-out ones which are popular with ADV bikes). At £800+ a pair though, plus £70 for the fixings on the pillion pegs, it is steep (or am I being tight ??). Will check around the forum to see if others have had these as they were an accessory for the DL1000 for a long time.

Just had a couple of test rides on a 1050xt and an older 1000xt (2018). The new one is much better. Not just in looks but in go. The engine is sweet and seems to pull much further up to the red line. I did find the seat hard but after an hour there was no aches from it. I like the TFT dash too. I am close to pulling the trigger on a yellow one as it reminds me of the Suzuki PE400 I had as a youth.
I also took out a new Speed Triple 765RS for an hour.  What a nutter bike but I found even that street bike uncomfortable after the big VSTROM 1050XT.

I am looking at buying this actual ex-demo vstrom this week:

Quote removed

I went for the aluminium 3 box which was on offer from Suzuki for £1300. I know its expensive, but I will be keeping the bike for a long time , and hopefully touring abroad. I looked at the plastic ones, and they seemed too small and cheap looking, although there is little difference in price. Since owning the bike , I have now realised that the boxes are from SW Motec's range, which can be bought a lot cheaper by shopping around. Also, the Suzuki ones have "Suzuki" stamped into the side of the box. If you change your bike in the future but keep the cases either to sell on or for a different model, I would have preferred to have the SW Motec on the side. Must say that the quality of the boxes is top class. I have removed the side case brackets as it gives the bike a cleaner look. I will reinstall them for my trips abroad. (simple to remove in 20 mins)

@Andy_ J

Good on you I have heard very good reports on the 1050 XT from the members on here that have bought one  :thumb:
After my original post I didn’t go back and book a  test ride in the end  :icon_no:
and the reason is I have been on Furlough since Easter and the company I work for have been making Redundancies now I am due to return to work in November and with the way the world is at the moment I am reluctant to spend the money on a new bike :icon_batterup:
I hope you end up buying this bike and if you do I look forward to hearing all about how you are getting on with it  :thumb:

@smith 61

Thanks. I have sold a few bikes to pay for mine. I have not been furloughed as I have been working all the way through so far. I would actually love to be made redundant (but that's another story).
I just wanted one good bike now and this is it for me. It feels lovely to ride and beats my Vstrom 650 in just about every detail but the engine is sublime.
I will do a report on it if it all pans out. The deal is not done yet. :obscene-drinkingchug:
Thanks again.

Well I decided against the 1050xt folks and went for a 2yr old Vstrom 1000xt instead. Saved loads of cash to enable me to buy some Oxford Mondial gear for those long wet touring rides when we get out of this virus crap.

Took delivery of my new to me vstrom 1000 today. :obscene-drinkingchug:

Now I like that a lot love the colour scheme  :thumb:
how does it compare to the 1050 that you had 2 test rides on ?
And to save lots of cash is a bonus  :icon_drool5:
I did like the 650 that you sold and I think @Mac1 had a very good buy there
Good luck with the bike  :thumb:

@asmith
There is not a lot of difference. Yes the engine on the new 1050xt is a bit more revvy going up over 6000rpm but the low down pull on this one is better. This bike is lighter. It came with the official Suzuki 57ltr top box and givi rack too. Official Suzuki heated grips, fog lamps etc. Higher touring screen. I really like it.

Cheers
