How to tighten up these nuts? I mean I can get them tight but they keep working their way loose again in a few days. What is the correct way to secure them.
I guess these are the stock mirrors - not great as when on the motorway I tend to be forward tucked into the screen and have to change position to check mirror when needed . Anyone recommend some good big aerodynamic mirrors ?

Two good-fitting spanners, preferably not adjustable. Position mirror where required. Put a spanner on the lower flats at 2, tighten up with the other spanner on the flats at 1. Bearing in mind that the locking collar at 1 is a left-hand thread. Make sure the mirror doesn't move during the tightening process. You'll only need three hands. The spanner at 2 doesn't move, its there to stop the rest of the lower assembly from moving.

I just fitted a pair of Halfrauds Diamond mirrors.
£20pr. Look good, just need to test them on my GP circuit.

OK went for a nice ride out.
A little windy along the coast road towards Bude.
So this will give it a good testing.

I would say, that after fitting the Givi screen back on, & with the Halfrauds mirrors the difference was an 80% improvement.
I have the Givi on top hole position, & for me 5'9.5" lowest setting on the movable screen.

There is still wind there, but that's there even with out the screen on.
So, the combination of Mirrors & Givi this is now quite acceptable. In fact very pleased.

Did over 60 miles, some at warp speed so a good test.
This is the 650 VStrom In White, so you know what I mean by warp speed.

Glad to hear there's a good improvement.
Try mirror extenders, they could/will make a slight difference to the buffeting, plus your rear vision is improved too.
The Givi Airflow works on the Venturi effect, altering the air that gets behind the screen, the more they overlap the better the effect (and the less air being moved around it) so your Sat Nav mount??? where it is, will affect that a little too. I have mine there, because it's the best position IMHO and live with the difference removing it could make.
Don't forget your on a motorcycle, you should feel some wind in your face or you may as well be in a car?

"There is still wind there" and now this is so much more like it. Also the buffeting has all-but gone.

Many vstrom owners, including me with my glee, have experienced extreme turbulence of the type that shakes your head so fast and violently it blurs your vision. Not just a question of a bit of a breeze, we all deal with that. If you're OK with stock items, good. You're one of the lucky ones. Singing won't put your eyeballs back in their sockets, though, and 300 miles of Stormbringer the way I sing would definitely make things worse.

I find my stock mirrors are fine too. In fact the size of the mirror helps better view behind. Some folk here seem convinced the shape of the mirror severely affects clean air/buffeting. I think it's just fashion..........

I don't think buffeting is an exaggeration for some riders Joe. If you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't suffer from it (and goldstromboy), lucky you. I suffered from it when I first got mine, the Airflow was a big help, changing the mirrors made a little difference then the extenders a bit more difference until I hardly felt any buffeting at all (then I went back a little when I fitted the Sat Nav mount

but still happy with it).
Like I said in my earlier post, it's a motorcycle, I like to feel the wind but not battering me around the ears!

PS @ V-Twin, your helmet can make a bit of difference too. I had two AGV's when I got the Strom, neither were bad but when I changed to the Shoei GT Air I felt a difference. Not sure I'd have spent that money, just for that difference, but I liked the helmet.

Definitely not a fashion thing for me. Best way to describe it might be as a high frequency vibration or oscillation, between 5-10 times a second, every second, all the time you're moving.. The sort of thing that makes you stiffen your neck to try and stop your head moving, to no effect other than a stiff neck for hours after a ride. It affects the head, eyes and ears. As Mick said, helmets mirrors and screens can all contribute to making it better - or worse. Curing it is an inexact science, or more accurately a dark and expensive art.

Mick, Schuberth C3pro, flip front. Great helmet. Also has the Bluetooth fitted for satnav & telephone.
Having sold my Tiger, (which had a multi position screen) I felt I needed to sort the buffeting on the VStrom.
goldstromboy, until you have changed the mirrors, you will never know how good they are. Great improvement.
Now just using the one bike...Until I get itchy hands & need another fix, maybe a Tuono V4?? which has all but no screen. But the fun I had with the earlier VTwin was out of this world.
I digress, the VStrom really is really great bike. Even better now. Must be getting old...

Never had a flip front helmet, I don't like them, I don't know why because I've never tried one.

But regarding the buffeting, or if you suffer from it and how to fix it.....each to their own.

I don't look for problems but follow good advice from here which is abundant!

I've been looking at a lot of SV650 ride/reports vids lately and I've appreciated how well protected a screened bike is.

When I ride the GPX I don't think at all about the little screen and even less about mirrors, which I can't blame or even guage as an inconvenience.

A bit snow flake for bikers really but h e y, we all see things differently.

Barbel Mick, I didn't like Satnavs until I had at least tried one. I do now! Same with helmets........no?
