The glee is a 650 (wee) with the gladius engine. If it has a beak then it becomes a gleek. It's just a shorthand way of quickly identifying the model of bike since they are all variations of DL650. I'm not sure what the latest vee and wee are called as they both have beaks but are a completely new style.

The original Vstrom was 1000cc.
Then they made a 650.
To differentiate, the big one was called a vee, and the smaller one a wee.
Then they changed the 650 motor to the Gladius 650 motor. A Gladius-engined wee became a glee. GL for gladius replacing the w.
Then they put beaks on.
A vee with a beak became a Veek.
A glee with a beak became a gleek.
These are just casual nicknames, its easier to say "I traded my glee for a KTM" than "I traded my Suzuki dL650L2 for a Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen."

The gladius is another model in Suzuki's line-up with the 650 engine but it was tweaked with more power and a different oil cooler. They then used this engine in the second generation wee from 2011, so to differentiate the 2011-on bike from the earlier "wee" model the term "glee" was coined.

A history lesson...

2002 and Suzuki releases the first vstrom as a 1000cc adventure bike. In 2004 they then released the smaller 650 version. As this was the smaller bike it was termed the wee strom (see what they did there?!) and the whole shorthand naming convention kicked off from there. As newer iterations of strom were released new shorthand names were created by the assembled sages of all things strom related to ensure a speedy understanding of which model type was being discussed. Just saying you have a problem with your 650 could have different responses depending on what year you have. 16 years of production has changed the breed considerably and not always for the better...

Hope this helps.

We could just say Mk2 650. Much easier.

But dad, when did the Mk1 change to the Mk2 and which is mine???
Not any more helpful; less if anything as it doesn't show at a glance whether the Mk3 has the god awful beak or not: Gleek does.

Wouldn't call it childish...

Just a simpler way of telling other children members who have more knowledge than yourself who may want to help.

Oh! dear it seems that some folks don't want to join in. That's OK, but it means it will be difficult to give them accurate advice if things go wrong.
