Genuine Suzuki parts
« on: June 15, 2020, 20:13:07 »
Any suggestions on where I can find genuine Suzuki spares? Dropped my bike against the garage wall today and its bent the resr right footrest hanger.

I've checked out Fowlers but they don't stock 2017 model spares, and wemoto don't seem to stock them?

Any help would be appreciated

Yeah Fowlers only go up to a DL650 2016, I'll call them in the morning and ask directly.

Timangus, do you have a website link for either?

Robinson's without a doubt one of the best to deal with and we have a forum discount code as well. Have you downloaded the 2017-on parts book from the download section, then you can enter the numbers into their site or google it. They may not have stock but will order it for you, usually very quick. The discount code doesn't always work for non stock items but its worth a try  :thumb:

Fowlers will have to order things like the metal peg hanger.
It's not a part that would be a regular selling item.

They likely don't list the 17> models due to licensing of the fishe from Suzuki.
Dealers pay quite a lot of money to the up to date model fishes that include the VIN database.
Update disks are sent out every 3 months.

Give them a call, bit have your VIN number and reg handy for them to search. Their live chat was very helpful when I was calling for Triumph or KTM part when I was in a Suzuki/Honda dealer.

Cheers blokes, I've sent a message to Fowlers to see what they come back with.

I've got the part number so I'll ask at Robinsons as well

Make sure you are sitting down when they give you the price!  Went to my local dealer on Saturday and my mate who works there asked me how much for a pair of Renthal fatbars from Suzuki.  I said about £50, his answer was add another £307.....£357 for standard fatbars (no Suzuki logo).  Right angled tyre valve, can't remember if it was £60 or £80.....for a £2 part.  Have Suzuki totally lost the plot?????

Is this the reality of a V Strom, why it is "Almost the perfect bike". It is very reliable and really,it needs no modification, even though you could analyze and improve the whole bike, you bought a V Strom, not a BMW, Honda, Yamaha, KTM or anything else, it's a V Strom.

The Strom does everything you need of it but, Hello! It's not an off road bike. Don't be taken in by the hype. You can take a Yamaha R1 around the world or to Timbuktu (if you really want to know, read the book. Someone will have one if you ask) but, it's a road bike, race rep, what ever but it's not a off road bike.

I have left the tarmac many times on many bikes but, my V Strom stays on tarmac unless, it is totally necessary to travel off road, on really easy stuff. To be honest, I wouldn't even want to scratch the bottom  of her belly pan.

So, I won't give Nick Sanders a race to Timbuktu but, I would leave him for dead on Devon/ Cornwall roads, somewhere where there are not to many straits.

So, I guess the reason it's not quite "The Perfect Bike" is because, some parts of it are made to a tight budget and, in my view, I would put the cost up by £500 and put all of that £500 into some more quality without changing the bike , different color scheme at most but no extra cost. Then it would be perfect and now, even more value for money.

But what else is wrong with it, that other little thing that could take the edge off it, that thing that stops it being, perfect?

Well, now I read that the parts cost a fortune? Please tell me, that's not true.
Without rain, there would be no rainbows.

https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/ are usually cheaper than Fowlers but may take a little longer for shipping as they come from EU

When I needed a new rear wheel (buckled in Kazakhstan- long story) I asked for the price of a new one - £709.00!!!!
I bought a used one off ebay but as I wanted it painted also had to renew wheel bearings and then discovered one of the disc bolt holes had previously been helicoiled and came out. So lots of faffing but really Suzuki - £709. I can supply a set of 4 alloy wheels for a Mazda CX-5 suv for less than that.

A new rear wheel for my 990 is only £783 and that is bigger and had to be hand built, not just poured into a mould...
Oh dear, just checked Fowlers for an L2 wheel and it's £943 so fantastic value there... Comparing more like for like, the KTM RC8 rear is also 17" alloy and only £682.

If only Suzuki were still the budget offering that the materials used suggest they should be: the prices aren't that far off superior alternatives now without the discounting.

Just don't ever damage the exhaust, or cam lobes or anything really as it'll write the bike off once it's a few years old.

Ride magazine had an article on this a while back (March 2020) using a Suzuki GSX-S1000F as an example, entitled "Why does a £9k bike cost £49k in parts?" Basically they said it's to do with having to offer and store parts for years, as well as the logistics of sending them out etc, and the older and rarer the parts get, the more they cost as people will pay for them...

I been using these blokes for my 1979 GS750E project, although they don't have the fiche for it I've been getting the part numbers from the BikeBandit website and just searching them on MCSP, so far I've had 100% success. shipping seems to take about a week give or take.

Just to add to this, how much mark up are Fowlers putting on these parts?
I recently ordered some front brake spring pads for both calipers from Wemoto for about £12 each. Fowlers listed them as £19.99 each, so I was expecting patterned parts from Wemoto, but having received them yesterday they were genuine Suzuki parts.
Looking on motorcyclespareparts.eu they're listed as £11 each. How come Folwers charge £20
(And yes, I refer myself to the above post on spares etc but that seems a massive mark up if the others can sell them for £11-12)

I would suspect that dealers are required to use the RRP on the spares to continue to be a dealership. Places like Wemoto are possibly importing grey market goods.
