Running Lights
« on: June 06, 2020, 17:25:36 »
Hi,

I'm looking to add some running lights to my V-Strom 650X (2019) and would welcome some tips about possibilities. Good sets and ease of fitting etc. I'm a new rider so forgive any ignorant questions :)

Also, the bulb is a warm colour (H9) and I'd prefer it was white (and the running lights too). I guess it is possible to just change the bulbs...?

Thanks!
Happy riding  :)

Welcome to the site,
I can not help you with running lights perhaps someone else can, but re bulbs yes you can get whiter ones and a lot brighter as well but the brighter they are the less service time you will have, I use Osram night racer bulbs with 110% more light and I am very pleased with them.

I wanted running lights so bought the brightest LED ones I could find. 20w each.  Way too bright. I've had to adjust them downwards to avoid dazzle in daylight!
Any LED with a 'fog' or spread beam will do the job. What you need is maximum spread so they can be noticed from a wide angle. Spot lights are too narrow.  You don't need to pay Denali prices for a decent light, but £4.99 ones won't last long.
I wired mine through a Big Pie fuse box so they come on with ignition.

I got a pair of fish eye/ eagle eye 3w led lights with mirror mount bracket built in.  Fabulously bright as a daytime running light, but don’t illuminate the ground.  £4-5 a set off eBay.   First pictures shows them mounted on my Honda NT700 to show how good they are.  Second picture shows them mount on my Strom on the crash bars.
Never too old to ride!

I can recommend these, mine have been through a lot of adverse weather over many 1,000's of miles and they are easy to fit and bright, a few other members have them and they are happy with them.

That's a really silly price. What have you got to lose? Even for a Yorkshireman, that's bloody cheap.

I got these on eBay, plus used some stainless p-clips and a simple switch again off eBay to give me spots that I think look more expensive than they were.

I had a pair of cheaper plastic LED’s of eBay and they worked fine for a few months, but they tended to leak after a while and die even with lots of silicone sealant from new. I went for these metal versions as they appeared more durable, time will tell!  :)
